Hi all. I have seen a few posts out there about fitting a towbar to a 2007 S40. Can anyone who has fitted one themselves let me know what you had to buy (relays, Canbus(?)).
I need to fit one, but don't want to give the volvo dealer my hard earned money!!
I have fitted towbars to other cars, with no issue, but the Volvo wiring scares me a little!!

My 05 had a towbar fitted to it which i had removed. I can take photos of the towbar its self if you think that would help?

How was it wired in? Was it through a relay?
Some pictures would be great. Some of the wiring loom would also be helpful
Why did you have it taken off?

Morning Tuxx,

I fitted a towbar and electrics to my 2005 S40 late last year. To fit the towbar you need to remove the rear bumper which is very easy to do. I used an aftermarket dedicated wiring harness from ebay for mine since it worked out cheaper than a volvo genuine one and the car required no dealer reprogramming. Please see the following link for wiring instructions. Do not use a generic bypass relay, spend that little extra for the dedicated harness, it makes life a hell of alot easier.

Hope this helps.
