Hello,
I need to understand how the parking brake adjuster works on the xc90 - I've read many posts on it, looked at badly lit YouTube videos - but I just don't get it.
Please could some very patient member explain it to me as if talking to a very slow 7 year old?
Thanks very much -

It is counter-intuitive.

You will need a suitable tool to expand the adjuster. I bought a cheap pair of large external circlip pliers (Silverline) and ground the ends to suit. You have to expand the adjuster to tighten the cable!

Hope that helps

Thanks Greg - but which bit do you expand with the tool? There's a cable which goes into a metal tube bit, which then fits into a sleeved bit with a knurled nut on the end that then goes back into a cable. ( There was also a circlip which pinged off into the dark recess as soon as I went near it !)

I'm sure I'm just being thick - Still struggling to understand the mechanism here but the illustrations are a big help
Update: I think my cable must be seized as the sleeve won't budge, let alone slide back down the adjustment rod.

?
Why would you do that?
because if i adjust it so it will pass the mot at 16% it binds , so i leave it backed off , so it passes the brake test with no binding , he then fails it on parking brake , i then adjust it and take it back ,
