Air Filter replacement

Hello all, I just ordered a K&N panel filter Part # 33-2873for my wife's V50 (2.4i). I suspect K&N send me the wrong one because it is definately not the same size or thickness as the filter that is in the box connected to the air scoop just behind the radiator and left of the ECU. Unless its NOT the air intake filter in that location.

I also find it curious that there is no mention whatsoever in the owner's manual.

Any suggestions? Thanks.
