Hello,

My wife really wants a parking camera for our V50 and I was just wondering what the options were.

If I had a regular car, I would perhaps replace the stereo head with a touchscreen double din job, that could be switched to camera mode whenever needed.

However, I have a horrible feeling that this is not going to be be possible with a Volvo (or at least economically so).

What options do I have (if any)>

It seems that my only other real option is to buy and mount a separate monitor, to be used specifically for parking.

I think to get an integrated one fitted then even if it's doable it wouldn't be economical. Plus you'd have to get a dealer or specialist to do it as it would need properly linking up.

Other than that you could look at one of those ones that are sort or built into your rear view mirror. Halfords sell them and you can do a basic install yourself or get an auto electrician to hard wire it. They don't automatically come on when you select reverse I don't think, unless there's newer ones now, so you have to manually turn it on and off. But a much cheaper alternative I would have thought.

If you had the sat nav it's very doable, sadly without the nav it's almost impossible to fit something OEM looking. A wireless camera with a separate screen would be a good solution should you want to do this.

OK not a V50, but I did this on my C70, there was a redundant grille on the dash top, where the OE Satnav would be, so I utilised this to fit a 7" aftermarket satnav which has a wireless reversing camera. I hard wired it in and it's totally independent of the car's lecky system. I added an external switch as I wanted it to be built in as much as possible.

Apologies for iffy pic, but it's getting dark outside, and no flash on my iPad! (There's a better pic in the thread I started a few months ago on this forum if you're interested. Also says how I made it)
