Coach paint.

I have been trying to find some brush paint to match my car - Volvo paint code 46, Cherry red but can only find coach paint with a colour chart which would be very hit and miss for colour matching. Has anyone found a manufacturer who can match out paint codes?
This is to paint under bonnet and engine bay as well as the boot area.

try marcel guest in manchester although most paint shops who paint cars have a light emiting scanner for paint matching. even faded metalics can be matched

46 Red (Amazon Cherry Red) is apparently well matched by year 2006 VW Salsa Red. Not tried it but you might be able to get a rattle can from a VW dealership.
As said there are plenty of places that will match paint by the litre or aerosol. Finding one that can duplicate the shade the next time you want it is another matter. Larger amounts are easier to do as some of the mix percentages are very small which makes it difficult to weight out fractional grams. If going for an aerosol get a small tin of brushable paint at the same time, that will help both you and the mixer. Unless you are going to clearcoat it ask for full gloss!!!

Several things come to mind

1) Red is one of the hardest colours to match (apparently - learnt from trying to match a red on my PV) - sun fading will mean the colour is most likely to already be a "multi-colour red"

2) The classic Land Rover world is at one with brushed on paint solutions. In my experience these solutions look utterly dreadful. Coach enamel (see HMG in Liverpool - I think it is Liverpool) is the kind of stuff that I don't think belongs on anything (!) but if you must then off you go!

3) Be aware of mixing different paint types. It is quite possible to make a chemical nightmare that will eventually mean you'll have to strip everything off and start again if you want a long lasting solution. Professional car painters will more often than not use sealing products to protect layers from interacting

4) Painting cars gets to be expensive very quickly

Just to close this thread, I managed to get my colour code 46 - Cherry Red brushing paint- from Paintman Paints in Northumberland who were very helpful.
I have since had an email from Car Colour services in Romford who say they can supply it as well.

The other thing to bear in mind with 46 red is that there are 3 shades. The lightest is a bright red and there is a much darker version. Most places mix it to the lightest shade
