V50 Tyres

This is probably a strange question but I currently have 225/40/18 wheels on my V50, however the ride is very harsh. If I was to run 205/50/17 instead would I notice much of an improvement?

Yes you would notice an improvement, you would also notice a difference depending on the tire. ie if you currenly have budgets they would be awful for ride comfort were as a more premium tire would give you a softer comfortable ride.

The skinnier tire would give you worse handling, less grip on the road.

I would agree with that. I got 205/50/17. Our other cars got 18 and 20 inch tiers. I would love to have bigger tiers on the Volvo V50. I think the bet tiers to can get for the V50 is 205/50/17. If you need more fancy tiers than that, change the car.
