Morning all,

As some of you may have seen i have been scouring the thread and asking questions the last few weeks. Time to get some photos up and info on the project.

Picked up this T5 between christmas and new year with brand new MOT the day before I collected, and had full service and cambelt change at the Volvo Dealer in Poole (Top work!) Has 106,000 miles on the clock and runs nicely. Only a few adviseries on MOT and Service, one front tyre low now been changed) and brake fluid needs flushing. Personnaly i think the Brilliant blue is one of if not THE best colour. Also has the Aux in behind the waterfall which upon reading preivous posts, for a 2006 is quite rare? also has 6 disc changer which is good i can drag out my old CD collection and make best use of it!

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/picture.php?albumid=2324&pictureid=11221

Got some goodridge brake hoses en route which i will fit and bleed, then get the system flushed properly by the garage behind my work.

Also picked up some Medusa wheels from FleaBay at a reasonable price (originals are 17's with 205x50 which is a random choice for a high powered FWD car):

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/picture.php?albumid=2324&pictureid=11222

They were in OK condition on the front faces only some small marks and curb rash, however the rear of the wheels were in really bad condition with corrosion:

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/picture.php?albumid=2324&pictureid=11223

So rubbing them down and getting ready for a re-spray ready for summer wheels:

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/picture.php?albumid=2324&pictureid=11225
https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/picture.php?albumid=2324&pictureid=11227

Next step is to get some Bilstien B14 shocks, new Polybushes and drop links which will be the task before summe when the wheels are ready.

Only thing i dont like about the car is the black trim around the bottom of the car, so i'm waiting to find either a "repairable" or breaking car which to swap the bits over for, as the colour matched body kit from volvo is around £600.

Going to run it for the year, then look at Re-map, Down pipe, and when the exhaust goes a new Ferrita one (want something quiet and suttle).
I want to keep this subtle but also increase power nicely to make it sleeper.

Any ideas or advice is welcome :) I will get some interior photos in the next few days.

Lovely looking car, nice to see another T5 project. You should create a thread in the project section of the forum here:
https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=45

I hope it serves well, great cars but they need their regular oil changes.

As for the exhaust, Ferrita are good but might be worth looking at going down the custom route as it will be made to exactly how you want it. I had a custom one on mine and its been brilliant with 2 small mufflers rather than one large back box.

Good luck, remaps defenitly wake these engines up a lot.

Also Dom, how much is it generally for a customer exhaust? I ideally wanted a plug in and go whichi can easily do at home.

Looking at around the £700 mark for a JT Tuning system and a bit more for a Ferrita.

Mine was about £550, there are photo's of it in my project thread:

Thanks Dom, i remember reding your post previously on the exhaust and i feel a 3" (as you have found) will sound a bit drowned. I quite like the sound of the 2.5" ferrita which seems to be almost stock like when low down in the revs, then seems to growl when it opens up.

I will see if there are any decent exhaust fabs close to be, i know plenty of stainless welders (its all we do here where i work) however we dont do thin pipes, we do from 6mm to 60mm thick stainless and duplex materials!

yeh defenitly, I only upgraded my previous Jetex 2.5" system because I needed the 3" system for the K16 turbo. As you are on the standard k04 I wouldnt suggest anything more than 2.5" and a custom system you could tailor to how you want it.

With mine, I just popped some deadning matterial in the spare wheel arch area under the matt and all fine now.

I may at a later date upgrade to a K16, but that will be after serious engine mods etc in which cas ei can upgrade the Exhaust after, however i still dont want to be too loud. Might do some experiments with 2.5" exhaust se how it does (unless anyone already has?)

hmmm thats a tough one as the K16 is an incredibly expensive process. You would kind of want to buy the parts you need for it rather than having to replace it down the road so really depends how far you want to go.

as for th 2.5" it shouldnt be loud at all so dont worry about that but it will defenitly sound better than the original exhaust and you should defenitly hear more top end. I did with my Powerflow / jetex system and thought it was pretty good, and very subtle.

Here is what you are after for the ferrita

Mine is the same colour, and a T5, so a very similar car to mine. I agree about the body coloured trim at the bottom of the doors, (mine has it) and it does look better. Occasionally V50's are broken on ebay so you should be able to get some in the correct colour as long as you are prepared to wait. Where is the aux input ? The CD changer is quite old hat now - although someone has created a replacment as long as you have very deep pockets

I did see a diesel one down in Cornwall that was up for £500, but was a non runner. Had the wheels I wanted (before I bought them) and the trim etc. Was tempted but as it was a non runner I could arrange for it to be collected as it would have not been worth it.

There was also one in a crash near me in Weymouth which may turn up at some point.

The aux is behind the waterfall/controls in the left just above the pocket there.

There is one on ebay at moment breaking https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-V50-For-Breaking-/312797430299?hash=item48d42e021b&_trkparms=pageci%3A82ae912a-3d5e-11ea-bf3d-74dbd1800a1e%7Cparentrq%3Acf2a937716f0aade036a5fb3 ff77eff1%7Ciid%3A1

I have messaged them see what price they come back with, however most of the previous breakers i have asked pricing for charged £200+ for the whole set of skirts/trims which is why i was trying to find a whole one to stip for parts, swap over and then send to the breakers. You never know they may come up trumps.

My car has medusa wheels also and exactly the same thing. Almost spotless on the outside edge bar a little scuff here and there. Poke your head round the back however... oh my good lord!! white oxidised ally loads of flaking paint on all 4. Something about that wheel design as nice as they look must allow water to fester behind. Hoping to get them refurbed (in grey, the car's black) after the worst of winter is over. Mines a 2006 sport and bodykit transforms the car in my opinion

The project looks cool and best of luck. I have engine envy (2.0d under my bonnet) 😀

Your engine envy would disappear the 1st time you went to fill up. 25mpg is usual for my T5

I’m averaging 27.5 at present. It’s been going down from 29 the last week mainly due to it being so cold. I only have a 5 mile commute so it’s only just warmed up as I get to work. If it’s longer journey an I’m not flooring it too much I get 29/30.

Thing is it’s soo difficult not to open her up and hear that sweet sound.

Just bought this car, found your profile looking into the suspension - looks like you have looked after it.

Somebody lost the service history but I can see you posted it!

Got any advice on it? Not planning on doing anything with it apart from getting it up to a good standard. Paint is lovely but going to need some work.

Would love an R design kit but seems like a ballache to get it painted!
