Im think of buying either a D5 or 2.5T XC90

Hi guys

Just joined the site as I am thinking of buying either a D5 or 2.5T XC90.

I currently have an E46 BMW M3 - but the wife is pregnant and wants a 7 seater and there is no way Im having a people carrier...

Any thoughts on the above XC's? What MPG could I get out the 2.5?

Also I hear a lot about the 163ps being down on power and makes the car seem very slow... Does the 185ps feel better? Also what reg / year did the model change to 185?

Going to test drive a few soon but wanted to get "expert" opinions first..

If I remember correctly the 185 bhp was out late 2005, b ut I am sure that this is detailed in the XC90 tech forums.

The pull on the newer D5 185 is noticably better than the predecessor and was commented on in a few caravan tests (practical caravan made comment on the previous one about it being poor).
However, you can always have a performance remap of the ecu and get petter performance and mpg out of them. See this for instance:

You will likely see somewhere around 25 - 35 mpg depending on driving style.

I would have a read through the tech forum though for more info and details on this.
Search also for mpg as there are a couple of threads on this for the diesels.. :)

Or just use recycled veggie oil :D
