I want to have a towbar fitted to me new XC90 and am unsure whether to have the dealer fit or go to one of the many fiiting centres.

My preference is for the removeable bar and it seems that with the Witter there is no cutting or drilling required - the basic mounts are already there. Not sure whether the electrics will be so simple, however.

The delare's price to fit is at least £200 more than a fitting centre - is the premium worthwhile?

Thanks in anticipation.

I have a Witter bar fitted, done by our local towbar dealer. Its not removable but it does the job and saved about £400 from the Volvo dealer once you had added all the bits and pieces up. The removable one does look better I must admit but not £400 quids worth of looking better.

I think it also depends how often you use the towbar, cos if its regularly it will probably be in the fixed position most of the time in which case why get a removable one. We use ours 3 or 4 times a month with trailers and caravans so a fixed one is actually a bit less hassle.

Cheers

Hi,

The advantage of having a volvo dealer fit is the electrics.
There is/will be a wiring kit for your car with a connector specific to it.
You can get the wiring kit seperately, of course. :)

Removable towbars are useful if you don't tow much.
Permanent ones are useful in protecting your car!
It is usually down to personal preference. which type..

Fitting shops should be able to deal with the volvo wiring kit, but I would check with them first..
