Hi
I have a 185 d5 2007 XC90 Geartronic

I was seriously looking at a ECU Remap.
Found the attached website.
http://www.race-tune.com/aboutrica.htm.
there comments re extra wear is as follows;

"The cost of the remap is £590.00 inc VAT and includes full VOLVO VIDA diagnostics before and after (although a 2007 car shouldn't have any issues!). The remap is designed to optimise the car for better MPG, power and torque but also cause as little wear as possible; the components that are working harder are the turbo and the intercoolers and the transmission all of which can take the extra pressure / torque."

has anyone experience of either this company or this type of remapping.
They say will not invalidate warranty? hard to believe!!

Is it really as good as they and others claim? What stops Volvo just remapping their cars at factory and selling with greater BHP & Torque?

Please advise

9-Q. Why doesn't the manufacturer upgrade the ECU from the factory?
9-A. Because they need to build in tolerance for owner abuse and to minimise cost. The engine must cope with poor fuel, lack of servicing, and general abuse. If you service the car regularly, use high grade fuel, and change the oil regularly, the engine can be optimised for better performance without compromising reliability.

How can altering the software program minimise cost? They have to write a program and install it in the ECU anyway.

They closed down under that name, and the current incarnation of the company are no longer authorised sellers for that product.

Look here for RICA http://www.rica.nl/

and also here for the MTE software, which comes from Kalmar Union http://forums.t5d5.org/index.php?showtopic=3926

Thanks I like the idea of the RICA chip as they seem most common.

But I have seen other co.s advertise 2 versions one being an 'eco' chip, which interests me as mpg is of more importance to me, than power.
