I'm thinking of purchasing a 1966/1967 p122.

Is there anything particulary to look out for that would count as 'classic faults' on a '66/'67 ?

Appreciate any feedback, thanks.

I have seen some useful articles about things to look for but, having had a 1966 122 for 25 years here are a couple of things.

Rust. Wings (inner and outer), sills, rear wheel arches, door bottoms (doors are difficult to get replacements for), boot.

Mechanics. Not too much to worry about. Give the brakes a good going over because they are single circuit and you only live once! Read crank oilseal is a weakness (when it goes it smears the clutch and produces shudder).

Electrics. I replaced the dynamo with an alternator because it kept burning out. Old spade connectors corrode and can cause problems. Mostly simple therefore easy to fix. Look for cracked rear light lenses - they are very expensive (if you can find them).

Other. Chrome trim is expensive to replace so try to get the best you can. The interior is not that easy to obtain replacements for. Weaknesses are splitting dashboard and leaks (look under the rubber mat).

Options etc. Get overdrive if you can.

I expect you may have already purchased the car you want , however if not:

I am on my second Amazon restoration. I would say your primary concern is the bodywork. Mechanicals are relatively easy to work on yourself, whereas bodywork is darn expensive and may need specialists.

I bought my current Amazon just because I wanted one! It turned out to be far worse than I had bargained for. Primary culprits for rot are the front and rear screens. Mine had leaked heavily over time and resulted in:

Rotten front footwell floors and sides/rotten windscreen surround/rotten lips to both screens (hard to repair).

I also had holes in the n/s/r footwell from a leaking side window (2 door car) and the wheel arches/boot floor sides/fluted lower rear panels all needed replacing. All in all it has cost £1000's not hundreds to put straight!

There are enough good restorable cars or restored cars out there so bide yur time!

Anyway, if you need advice etc my e-mail address is vrodrigu@structuretone.co.uk

Looked at the car. It was recouverable but not what I want. Windows ok but all the other spots had rust and repirs. There was too much evidence of potential trouble so I left it. Now looking again.

Make sure you bring a torch with you and as the saying goes know your onions.

Thanks again
