Hi guys
I am new to Volvos, but not to cars, and have been looking for the same thing for my S80 2.5D.
After asking lots of manufacturers and trying a Scantool II without success, this firm claim they cover all Volvo's. Give them a try, I will next month.

Or look at this one:
Linky (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300060791088)....
Costs a bit more but gives live data, data capture and code clearing etc..

The cheapest for your volvo is the U380,

this may or may not work with the Vauxhall though, the U480 will give you a
better chance it may work with the Vauxhall, but not guranteed.

The problem with the vauxhall is that many early cars were not OBD2
compliant also Vauxhall seemed to like experimenting by changing the
protocol often.

The U480 is the cheapest multi protocol device, so if that does not work
then nothing will.

I had the lambda light come on and "Engine emission service required" message come up on my 2.9SE auto. I've had the car 3 years and this is the first time any message has appeared. There were no other symptoms, but I stuck it into the dealer just incase it was serious. The dealer had it all day, reset the codes, checked it after a few hours, told me there was nothing wrong with it, and charged me £90. They said if it happened again, then bring it back and they will need to keep it for a couple of days. At 90 quid a day, I don't think so. Sure enough, the lambda light came on again today, this time without an accompanying message. I have been looking at Geniscan code readers on e-bay. One is advertised as suitable for Volvo but presumably they all work on any OBDII compliant car. Anyone got any experience of these, can they reset the lambda light? £30 for a code reader seems better than £90 to be told it's a false alarm.

the u480 and it works fine on my 2.4 petrol s80, reset light then it came on again, comes with a book of codes (only does the basic stuff but its all I need) using code and searching the internet came up with lots of info so have checked the probe wiring and belive the heater circuit to be faulty so have ordered another lambda probe.

if you are close enough you can pop around and I can read the code for you, I am in st albans in herts

Thanks for the offer mate, but I'm 400miles from St Albans. I've ordered a PC code reader interface from e-bay and will post results when it arrives.

ELM 323 interface came with "Scantool " software. Loaded up OK but took a few atempts to connect. Codes were P0172 and P0175 (System rich banks 1&2). So this works on a 1999 2.9 non turbo if anyone is thinking about buying one. It took 3 weeks to arrive from China but only £29 from:

I'm still looking! if anyone knows of a reader that they have tried and found to work on the Audi engined S80 2.5D I'm sure there would be lots on here that would be interested.
