Does anyone know please whether our 1997 S70 Se Tdi (2.5) has a VW ABP, AAT or AEL engine - or an AAS engine? Thanks.

the gearbox fitted to your model will be on the vin number, how to read it is below-

Thanks Paul - According to that list it is engine type 33 = B5244SG2. Not that that makes a lot of sense to a mere woman! How does that relate to the Audi engine code in the A6 Haynes Manual? The auxiliary belt came in the post from the UK today - and he's fitted it. The engine is trying to start - almost there. If we can get it started we can get the car down to the local Citroen garage to see if they can re-set the timing.

hi

your engine code would be AEL. the AAT code is for the same engine only with 115 HP (never built in volvos).
