Hi all this is my first post.

I am slightly confused i have read that the volvo's are thirsty engines, but i expect they are not that bad.

I am about to move from VW to Volvo in January I am going to buy the 1.6 D or 2.0D. I am slightly swayed by the 2.0D so far.

VW are extremely good on fuel averaging 45-50 mororway miles and I want to know practicable volvo fuel figures rather than the manufactures figures.

I would say i drive normally 80-85 on the motorway, what fuel economy can I expect from a 07 plate c30.

Any help from 2.0D users will be great.:animal-smiley-037:

Won't be as good as the VW i'm ashamed to say. Do a search on here for the s40/v50 as engines are the same. I would also say to avoid the 1.6 all together as performance is not that bad but not great.

Paul.

Hi Wilbur,
Not spent that much time in a C30 as yet,

But the last commuting I did in a V50 2.0D averaged me about 47 mpg, against a published figure of 48.9 so not to far away.
the V70 D5 we have does again 2-3 mpg below the book figure & I have always found this pattern is fairly consistent amongst later cars, so If you work on mid/upper 40's should be fine

We have a C30 2.0D in which we did 2000 miles driving through France and Spain last summer. Average consumpsion for the trip - 49.9

I get high 40's MPG in mine, after 10K miles. No point in measuring consumption for the first 20 minutes though - engine is too cold.

To update that, my car has now done 17,750 miles and is consistently returning 50 - 52 mpg. I'm expecting that to drop when winter diesel comes in, but it's the right ballpark, I think.

I think you buy the 2.D for performance rather than mpg , its not easy to get over 45 mpg unless you dont use the turbo boost .

You buy the 1.6 D for economy , and it still has some respectable performance without that sudden violent torque of the 2.0D which when pulling out of a bend or roundabout can upset the car , the 1.6 D is a joy to drive having a much lighter lump in the front too.

You get the D5 if you want the proper job however ...
