Does anyone know the changes volvo have made to increase the power of the D5 unit. I have a 2004 163 model and am considering getting a Spider unit, though these are near enough 400 quid.... And if so,could these changes be retro fitted to the old model... many thanks

The New D5 is heavily re worked with new cylinder head and variable inlet manifolding and new control systems and injectors , it is not just a boost increase , in fact the boost is very similar . It is the correct way to improve the engine , which is also cleaner of course .

cheers for that, will probably go the spider route then, this sounds the best as it runs multiple maps for economy or power. Are there any mods that are worth doing, ie new intercooler, k&n filter etc... I don't want to mod where the improvements are minimal. Also if anyone knows, is the six speed tranny a straight swap< The five speed seems to be revving to high at motorway speeds....around 2750rpm, would prefer it to chuck along at 2000-2250 at 75ish,.... Does anyone know the gearing of the six speed?
