My 1996 850 Tdi is getting more difficult to start. It turns over at a good speed, but doesn't fire, or fires but then won't pick up. Sometimes when its hot it just won't start at all - which can be pretty embarrassing. Keeping the starter running as it fires, until it picks up, seems to help, and sometimes just turning the ignition off and then starting again seems to solve the problem. Its recently had new injectors & heater plugs. Any suggestions? Thanks

hi
sounds like your dynamic pump timing is out, this can be done by your dealer , indi, or a good diesel garage that has the equipment, this has to be set up with the engine runing and the values read. hope that helps
mike.
ps you can get a code reader from ilexa onboard diagnostics that will allow you to set up the pump timing the programe is volfcr

Hi,

Sounds like air in the system, has it started doing it since you had the work done?

a way to see if it is air is to put one of those fuel bulbs which move fuel in the line.before you start the engine, pump the bulb a couple of times until it gets hard and if it starts easier it will most probably be air in the system.check all fuel lines for leaks, and all glow plugs and ijectors are in securely with copper washers.

hope this helps,

Loz
