Flashing Immobiliser LED

My battery went flat after a period of inactivity on my 1996 440 1.8SE . Recharged battery but now have a flashing LED. What does this mean and does it cause any problems, other than annoy the pants of me. Have searched the previous threads for this problem but nowhere does it tell you how to stop it.

Can anyone out there shed light on this and how to re-set.

I had this trouble when I bought my 1995 440. Alas, I disconnected it as it drove me mad as well. However this was not the end of the story as I had trouble with the immobiliser. (there seems to be no info available on this). Later the car packed up in the dark on a country lane! The breakdown man said he had experienced this before and cured it by removing the fuse and replacing it. I then had the immobiliser bypassed and never regretted it, however occasionally the central locking packs up ( all part of the same system). This is always cured by removing the fuse marked 'immobiliser keyless entry' and replacing it. This resets everything. I can only suggest you try this and see what happens. Good luck!

I think I have a problem with my immobiliser too, as although my car runs it cuts out whilst driving. Have replaced alternator & battery (as was told that was problem) but it's still cutting out & realised that when the car first cut out the immobiliser light was flashing constantly. So am now thinking that it's causing the problem. So I've been searching everywhere online for some way of bypassing or disconnecting the immobiliser. Saw your advice above & was wondering how you got your immobiliser bypassed? Is it just by removing the fuse & replacing it as you state above?

prise the bulb and surround out, there is a plug about 8-10" down the cable, disconnect it, and annoying flashing light is gone :D

That doesn't help me, the light is flashing to say there is a fault somewhere. Just disconnecting the bulb doesn not stop my car from cutting out! I need to know how to bypass or disconnect the immobiliser not take the bulb out! Thanks anyway.

sorry to take so long replying. All I can say is that when the car cut out I took it to a vehicle electrics specialist in Chard. They eventually found that it was the immobiliser.(Apparently this is all behind the glove box). They bypassed the offending circuits that cuts out the fuel pump etc and it's never cut out since. A side effect is that the remote no longer works and as I said before sometimes the central locking stops working. My suggestion is that you take it to an electrics specialist (if you can find a good one) to do the same. Modern cars are too complicated, give me simplicity of design!
