Bit of a rarity, thought someone might be interested, i'd get it, but just counted my loose change and i'm abou 160 quid short ;)

Hi Tom

You can get one of these from IPD USA for $125.00 (85 GBP) the last time I saw. The ebay item seems a bit rich and opportunistic to me!? Although you'd have to take shipping into account, but surely it'd still be worth it!

On the other hand, if it were the one of the ones with the Volvo logo on the top (the one Volvo took IPD to court for for using their name without concent), now that'd be a different story! Beware!

Nice cover, but there's no way it'll sell at that price when you can get a new 'un from IPD for less even with postage from Oregon.

Definitely with Dylan144GT on this one.

I have seen the 'Volvo by IPD' covers now and again on Yankee Bay - the last one I remember went for a crazy amount of money, close to £300.

Now that I think on there's quite a few different rocker covers out there - I'm quite surprised that Volvo R Sport didn't get in there.

Here's my list, see if anyone can add to it:

1. Nordic (seen two, one on eBay and the other on that car in Brum)

http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w130/jessopjessop/122SRuddspeed_large_large.jpg
2. Ruddspeed (standard cover with badge on)

3. IPD \ Volvo by IPD (two types, plain \ named)

4. Ellemann Jakobsen

5. R - Technik? (Can't remember the name, saw one on Tradera)

I believe Timos Motor made a few custom ones as well, but I've never seen one fo' real, or even a photograph.

I wonder if the seller is a member on here. He sells loads of parts on Ebay and always puts a huge starting price on them.

The IPD ones that I know of...

I) 'VOLVO' These were the ones that IPD got a nasty letter from Volvo.
II) 'VOLVO-IPD' IPD changed to these and got another nasty letter from Volvo.
III) 'IPD-Portland, Ore' These are by far the rarest ones but are not as sought after.

The attached photos is what is currently on my own 1800.

In all honesty, I have owned about 15 of these in various forms over the last ten years. I have seen the above models sell between $200-300 normally. But I have seen them sell for as little as $100 and as high as $425....

Nice wingnuts \ fastners!

Where'd you get those from?

The fixings came from the states and are used on the V8s. It means that you get 8 so I have 4 spare - somewhere??!!!
The advantages with them are they can be quickly done up and the wing nuts can be aligned after securing.
Cant recall price but they were not a lot

Do these covers reduce tappet noise much? I love the look of that Volvo IPD cover and if it shuts up the bloody tappets I would be tempted to keep an eye out for one!

Don't know anything more about "Comfort" other than they also made alloy manifolds for B18 to take a downdraught Weber. Don't know if that was single or twin choke. They were Swedish as far as I know.

I have that IPD cover and loose tappets are noisy anyway but I can't say it wouldn't be worse with the tin cover. A friend of mine carefully removed the volvo logo from the center of a later hub cap then carefully welded it to the top of a stock cover. He is an expert air craft welder so it came out beautifully and looks really nice. Sorry no photo.

I really like the elleman-jakobsen cover, awesome graphics leaves the IPD cover looking a bit pale.
Always thought Volvo was a bit petty over this issue. You'd think they'd want to encourage the little people to help improve the brand image since they don't seem to be able to build a car up to the standards set by the Amazon anymore.
I had to end my membership to the Volvo Club of America since their magazine is almost totally a showplace for what's new at Volvo. They sold out and the content as far as vintage cars is concerned is limited. I can get all the hype for free from any new car showroom. Maybe if Ford goes banlrupt Volvo will be free to fend for itself and they can regain their lost vision.
