Having owned a pre-facelift 460 and a 440 I like the shape of this model. My 460 was clapped out and my 440 needed (surprise, surprise) the alternator replaced aswell as fuel pump, brakes, amongst other things. I own an S40 which I was going to put on the road but I am now currently on a driving ban for reasons I will not disclose. I want to know if a T5 engine from an 850 or s/v70 will fit into a 440. It is early days, but due to having extra cash I would like to buy another 440 or 460 and do an engine swap. I obviously will be upgrading the brakes and suspension and a list of other things if I go ahead with it. I would like to have it as a track car, but also road legal. I realise labour alone will be into four figures. I just want to know if it will be feasible to get a 2.3t into the 440 engine bay. I also intend to strip the car out.

Thanks

Dave

Some info on the 480 forum here: http://volvo480.dragons.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14199&highlight=850 Which is essentially the same engine bay.

Even it did fit which it wont due to its length, height and bulk of the gearbox it will be a nightmare , you would be MUCH better off fitting it in the rear with that kind of power .
A mildly tuned 440 Turbo with 160 bhp is a handful if otherwise unmodified , to say the least :-)
