My Dad is thinking about going back to Volvo finally, he's found a V70 D5 SE Manual. I dont know much about these other than what people tell me, so i'm looking for some advice. WHat are they generally like on fuel, he does mainly town driving, also, i know they are hard to suspension bushes, but have they any other major faults to be wary of??

I've put a link to the ad for the car below, thanks in advance guys

my Dad had one, only for two weeks though and with gently town driving would get 28-32 MPG cant really help with faults apart from the fact that the front suspension wears easy and they go through tyres quickly

Having read up quite a bit on the diesels this is the one I would have if I had a bit more money then I normally have when I go to buy a Volvo diesel, it's fuel economy is very good, theres a thread in diseasel engine section about their mpg, they also seem to be a long lived engine

I've had a 2003 2.4 D5S for 6 months. Apart from a leaking steering rack (mainly because someone had fitted the wrong one) it's been trouble free and a lovely car to drive. You DO need to practice 3-point turns though, because the turning circle is dreadful.

Laneystriders comment re mpg is very true, they do vary a great deal, so be sure which engine you get.

Thanks for the comments guys, keep them coming!!!

I cant imagine the V70 turning circle being much worse the the 850's ect, nothing compares to the RWD stuff lol.

One post mentioned varations between engines, do you me petrol and diesel, or is there more than one diesel variant??

Re Engine performances, this site tells you the differences. The biggest difference is that the newer diesel engines guzzle fuel compared to those around mid 2000's

According to the on-board computer, I get about 45 on mixed driving, about 55 when cruising on motorways. I do try to drive using a light right foot though.
