Just done a very silly thing - poured a few splashes of screen wash into the brake fluid reservoir of our 55 Reg V50 by mistake. Realised almost immediately but not quite quickly enough. Tempted to go carefully round the block to see if there is any adverse effects but thought better of it in case I end up with a huuuuuge repair bill (instead of just a large one!). Any sensible thoughts would be welcome.

You have no idea how tempted I am to make some non-sensible suggestions involving you swapping your car for something you deserve, but I'm not going to kick someone when they're down :)

I think Alexx is on the money - syringe out the screen wash and top up with brake fluid. I'd get the fluid changed ASAP as a safeguard. It should cost much, and you really, really don't want to mess with your brakes.

cheers

As suggested, plastic syringe to get as much of the fluid in the reservoir out as you can, then top up.

Don't feel bad, in an absent minded moment, I once poured half a litre of water into the oil filler cap of my MKII Escort.

Or you could get a short lenght of pipe attached to the filler of a brake fluid bottle. Put the end of the pipe below the screenwash fluid and 'fill' the reservoir. This should expel the screenwash out of the top. You could then remove the filler pipe from the reservoir, expel the air from the bottle and then 'suck' the overfill from the reservoir using the brake fluid bottle.

If the screenwash floats on the brake fluid (like oil floats on water) you could just fill it up till its overflowing (making sure to wrap a cloth round the filler to soak up the excess) and then dip a (clean) rag into the reservoir until it is soaked up down to the fill level (or just syringe it!)! I'm not sure if the screenwash will float as i've never done that!
