Hello,

I'm a newbie on this site.

I've fallen in love with the idea of buying a V70r station wagon.

Does anyone have any suggestions which would be the best year to purchase?

Also, I live in British Columbia Canada.

Hi Brad,,
I own a 1998 V70R AWD,,,,and its the best car I have ever owned.

However,,,the AWD system can be problematic,,ie: the rear wheel transmission.

The rear wheels are driven from a transfer box, through a propshaft, which is connected to a Viscous Coupling,, which in turn,,drives the differential.

So,,there are alot of expensive components to wear and fail.

Particularly on higher mileage examples. I speak from personal experience.

I can appreciate your needs in your location,,,,,but in my humble opinion,

your needs would be ideally served with a FWD model.

Indeed,, there are members on this forum who have identified this problem.

Also:

It is critical to have all four tyres from the same manufacturer,,
and monitor tread depths,,otherwise,,if one tyre shows more wear than the others ,,,,the AWD system is compromised,,usually the transfer box,,
leading to failure and expense.

In my case,,I removed everything from the transfer Box to the differential,

(Propshaft and Viscous Coupling),,to make my car FWD.

Thus avoiding the vast costs involved in repair.

My car now does more mpg,,and feels more responsive.

Good Luck
John.
