Our four year old V50 T5 idles very fast when started from cold in the morning. It immediately revs to 1800 rpm, then after about 3 to 5 seconds drops to 1500 rpm and then after maybe another 10 secs it settles at what I would call an appropriate idle speed of about 1000 rpm. When hot it will idle initially at about 1300 rpm and then after a few seconds drop to 1000 rpm. Surely with modern electronics it should just idle at 1000 rpm straight away? My C70 T5 has always started and idled at 1000 rpm, hot or cold.

What experience do other V50 T5 owners have?

My 2005 S40 T5 has always done that, I thought it was normal!

Not to worry, its normal with a high idle rpm the first few seconds.
Although I`ve never seen it as high as 1800, mine starts at 12-1300 and drop to about 900 after 15 sec or so.

Mine's similar. ~1100rpm for 15secs or so and then settles at ~750.

Yup, same here! it made me cringe on those snowy February mornings!

I suppose mine leaps to 1400 ish then does a controlled ramp down to 750 after 10 secs? sometimes it seems longer than others.

I did find out once that it's not a good idea to drive whilst it's doing this (bit jerky) so I always wait for the idle to settle first.
