Just gone through my 3rd second hand temp gauge, they seem to last one day and then stop functioning.. anyone had the same problem?
I know they are quite fragile, but this takes the p*ss

Has anyone fitted a different temp gauge using the same threaded hole in the head?
I suppose a new one would be better than a second hand one, but the price is more than I want to pay!

Is that the mechanical one ? Whats failed exactly? You can get those repaired . Make sure the thin pipe is coiled a few turns about 2 inches diameter between engine and bulkhead to absorb pipe breaking engine vibration ...

When I got my car first, the previous owner had fitted an electronic type temp guage and it was fitted in the same sender hole in the block. So, yes, it can be done and it seemed to work fine. I eventually replaced it with a proper mechanical unit I got from Brookhouse.

ah, very interesting! I was thinking along those lines as I now have a couple broken ones to try to 'modernise'
