I have a 1972 wagon and it really does look the part, yes i have tweeked the looks slightly, sounds good with the sports exhaust too. It just runs like a slug!! Can`t be bothered dealing with V-Power in the states, is there any one in the UK that can help!!!!

What's the performance like so far? Acceleration / cruising speed / motorway hills? The reason I ask is to ascertain whether or not it is performing as it should to begin with.

I have had the engine reconned about 2000 miles ago, I made a very deliberate point of driving like miss daisy for the first 1500 or so. She goes really very well, but I have to push her to get somewhere if you know what I mean........ She was originally an EFI but has been converted back to Twin SU...... running better now than she did before, but runs quite a bit, splutters occasionally and I seem to get only about 130 miles out of a tank!!!

Sounds like it needs tuning up properly but I'm not an expert in that area. However regarding the fuel consumption, i can get it that low in London traffic jams, but on the open road it can be well over 200 per tank, so could be just a case of setting the carbs.

I think you need to do some performance tests and compare these to road-test-figures of the time (I'm sure people can help you out on this board with statistics) - 0-60, 30-50, 50-70, top speed on the flat (within reason of course) etc. Have you had a compression test done? The consumption does seem a bit high, but I agree that you need a proper tune-up and balance and a good service should cure any ignition-related problems. You might also check that you have the correct needles in your carbs.

Good luck with it.

I was going to say make sure you have the su needles for the b20 not the b18. That would make a huge difference

Hello, take a look at my posting "My Supercharger Project". I also couldn't be
bothered with V-power so i went about supercharging my way.
I'm not far from you so if you want to come for a look feel free. Also i would
be able to help you out with the fabrication of brackets, pulleys, etc.

Had the tuning done yesterday, she is running a lot quieter but does not have any real additional power.... the mechanic says she is in a great condition and will last for another 37 years no issue!!!!!

So back to the drawing board......

I thought about switching the B20 for a B230.......but I have a couple of questions....

Are the blocks the same - in size/ fitting?
Has anyone tried doing this yet?
Will the gear box switch easily?
Will have to mod the mountings?
Will I have to change the drive shafts/brakes etc etc

Let me know as to your thoughts!!!

In your search for more power, have you ever considered putting a T-5 engine in?
I know of a couple in Holland that have done this mental.

Do you have any pictures of them?

Something I've been considering for some time, but it looks like a very tight fit.

Thanks - I've seen pictures of a couple with B21s/23s, but never a 5-cylinder.

I considered buying an unfinished project T5/P1800 which was being sold by a contributor to Practical Performance Car, but there was still a lot of work to do. I wouldn't want to do it if it entailed lots of bulkhead modifications.

What type or P1800 are you after, I know where there is one due to break soon / available to be sold. He has all the front end and back end to fit onto the car, but will need some sill work....... wants £750 for it......let me know!
