Hi
Just had a frustrating tussle with the charging system on the car and I thought I would share the solution.
The car stopped charging, but the AMP light was not on.
I then became aware that the AMP light did not come at all.
After checking lots of things around the alternator, swapping it and the regulator I realsied that this was a fundamentally more simple issue.

I traced the wires under the dash, and found that the yellow lead had come out of the block under where the steering wheel is and near where the amp light is.

I think the plastics change nature over time and it just was not held in properly anymore.

So conclusion is that if there is no AMP light at all, then suspect a disconnection before blaming anything else.

Hope this helps someone save time.
