2000 remote key

whats the story on the remote key? I just purchased a 2000 v40 and got a remote(from ebay). Dealer wants me to purchase software and send a mechanic on vacation on my bill. $30 plus $110. If anyone has a better solution, I would be very appreciative. Factory manual should have the procedure.
