Hi all, been a member for a while but been mainly lurking and learning !!! The time has come for me to try and buy one now, so after NEARLY finding what I wanted on autotrader and ebay (anywhere else good?) I have narrowed down what I'm after:

Essential:
Auto
185bhp
2005 (dont wanted to pay £400+/year tax)
under 60K miles

Desirable:
Titanium Grey (but most other colours considered)
Leather
side steps (not essential, as I can get them fitted)
performance audio
winter pack
poss family pack if it was available in 2005
front parking sensors (not essential)

Anyone got anything similar for sensible money - make me an offer.

Thanks for your time,

Darren

Close, but its a 2006, so dear tax.

To be honest, I'm not sure if I should be worried, but I can only imagine higher tax brackets getting higher over time, so I wanted to future proof myself a little - am I being paranoid?

How much tax would are you hoping to be paying? The tax on a '07 D5 is £245.

Hmm, thanks for the reply, but now I'm REALLY confused !!!

In this thread - http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=89487&highlight=tax+band

it says:
I looked at this extremely carefully before buying mine.

D5 was released with 219CO2 manual
230ish auto.

Government in need of money created new tax band in 2006... and car above 225 got penalised with a car tax of £400
Car in the 200/224 staying in the £200ish.

Only cars registered after 23 or 26 March 2006 falls into the high tax band. Cars registered before stays in the £200ish band.

Volvo got its D5 auto reassessed in 2008 (not sure when) and got the D5 auto at £224 basically bringing it back in the £200ish tax band.

Lost?
Here is a summary:
D5 manu: £200.
D5 auto registered before March 2006: £200
D5 auto registered after March 2006 and before sometime in 2008: £400
D5 auto registered after 2008: £200.

If buying new, ask the seller to show the V5 document.

Now, from 1st of April, the £200 becomes £250
the £400 will be £450

- if a 2007 IS £245, that widens my search entirely - can you confirm please mate? (I'd really appreciate it !!)

Darren.

Go on the DVLA web site, and you can find out how much it is to tax any car. All you need is the reg. Click on the vehicle enquiry tab

It appears you're right. Must be the difference between manual and auto. Go for the manual, they are generally more reliable anyway.

Cant understand the £425 tax on certain models.

If you go for a 56 reg 4.4 V8 Petrol, 12 months tax is only £205. How odd eh

Unfortunately I do lots of towing (trailers and caravan) so a footbrake and a manual when towing are very hard work, so I'd rather an auto.

... but thanks for the help so far.

Thanks for the help, advice and emails.

I finally tracked one down - 185 12/2005 Auto in Lava Sand with cream leather - just what I was after !!
