s70 tdi engine problem

Posted Dec 20th, 2012 at 12:42 by s70tdinut

Hi everyone, new to forums, so please be patient. I have a 1998 s70 tdi with 180,000 miles on the clock. have driven 50,000 trouble free miles & it has always started first time.
it started a couple of weeks ago to lose power at about 2000rpm then pour out black smoke. i have had it looked at by my local gargae & the diagnostics said it had a fault with the injection pump. i took this to a local diesel injection pump who have serviced the pump (which had a fault) but they said it probably was not causing the problem i described. when the repaired pump was put back on the car, it will only start after turning over many times, at which point it ticks over smoothly, but when you push the throttle it stalls & wont start again. they then decided (via the diagnostics) that the crankshaft position sensor was at fault. having changed this with a new one, it has made no difference. could anyone please help as i am losing faith in my local garage, but not with the volvo (yet).
