Catching up with jobs

Took a sample of oil for the lab at 408k. No significant metal wear reported. Really pleased.
Last time the head came off was when Volvo replaced the head gasket due to a slight exhaust leak to coolant at 268k. The Na (sodium) increased from 10 parts per million to 612 ppm. Antifreeze into sump spillage. So I changed both full flow and by-pass fillters, flushed and changed the oil. Not cheap on Amsoil 0/30 fully synthetic. This reduced the Na to 7 ppm. OK.
I changed the head at 407k due to burnt exhaust valve in No. 2 cylinder. Na on analysis 10ppm. So what happended before, when Volvo changed the head gasket?

The auxcillary air valve on the B200E was not working after I got the head on, no earth. Checked out on the green book. Poked the wires beneath the inlets, one seemed loose, hooked it out. Two black wires clipped into a ring connection!! This goes under the cold start bolt to make a perfect earth connection. Perfect idle. Yes.

The red feed from the alternator has separated again, third time, so I have no warning lights when the ignition is on, except oil and hand brake. It means the alternator out again to make the reconnection as the remaining bit of wire is getting so small, it may need new loom to the battery finally cure this. A bit un-nerving running like this.
