I shall be posting my Volvo radio CR 4024 if I may.

The rubber drive bands buried in the radio tape machine are broken on/off too.

I have three of these radio's. One in bits, one no tape drive.
One no power

Please respond.

Hi Marcel,

Mike here, F.R.F Volvo, I spoke with you last week regarding my fathers V70R HU850 head unit when it jammed cd's and displayed the fatal "CD ERROR".

After re-timing everything once it continued to show cd error, now after rechecking and re-timing everything again there are no more errors.

Superb advice from you as always. Just want to say a big thanks from me and especially from my father who is well chuffed.

I'll surely be spreading outstanding words about your business.

thanks again

Hello Marcel,
I tried to send a fax to what I thought is your fax number i.e. 01473 271759 (441473271759 when sending from here in Canada) but it didn't get thru to you. Can you advise your email so that I can send you an email or attach a copy of the fax?

PS It is in regards you to possibly being able to repair an HU-801 CD player which won't eject my CD.

Hi Marcel

I have a V70 Classic 2000 W reg. The radio has recetly started distorting on hard "s" and "t" sounds on the soken word. No problem with CDs. When the distortion occurs, the "ST" symbol appears on the radio console. Any ideas what the problem is? I don't have the manual and can't find an online one to tell me what the "ST" symbol means! All help gratefully received...

Hi Marcel,
I am partially deaf (not 'that' deaf - its about stereos after all... but phone calls I find particularly hard!) so would it be possible to deal via email etc ?

I have seen that you have posted in a number of threads on the Volvo forums stating that you can repair pretty much all Volvo head units etc.

Well with mine I am not entirely sure that a repair would be the most cost effective route, but regardless, I am keen to get a rough quote from you as I really would prefer to keep things looking 'factory' if I can?

Its an HU-601.
The radio itself does actually work fine - the headunit is lit and steering controls work as they should etc.
However, the display flickers constantly with words and digits being displayed at random... you can just about tell what radio station you are on (with a bit of guesswork).
In addition to this, the unit is reluctant to take a CD, but if you push it in then it doesn't seem to recognize that a CD has been loaded and continues with the radio.

Pressing 'Source' has no affect at any time. Its just like its not connected up properly or something?
CD ejects fine.

I have only had the car a day but if you need more info, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Look forward to your reply,

Hi Marcel,
Just bought a used SC-805 but there is no output to the speakers. I assume that taking the original 700 unit out of my 1995 850 and fitting the 805 in its place should be fairly straight forward? Everything works ok with the old unit so the wiring is fine.
The 805 operates when plugged in, the code works ok, the CD, tuner and cassette all seem to operated ok, but there is no sound at all. The Pause feature on the volume control works so there is something there?
What do you think? Is it an economic fix?

I look forward to your reply.

Many thanks to Marcel. Top service with very quick turn around time and good communication. All systems go with the repaired SC805. What a great radio.

Hi marcel,
You seem like someone who can help, I am new to this forum, I have a 2000 v70 which has an sc-805 tape/radio which works great, but I have since bought a second hand sc-805 cd player with code, which swapped straight in allowed the code and turned on then 10 seconds later blew a fuse , but I believe it must be an internal fuse as I plugged the old unit back in and it worked no problem , my question is does the cd unit have an internal fuse and if so could you tell me where it is so I can replace it,
Thanks Gary

Volvo RTI DVD Unit

Hi, I have a broken DVD unit, that say they can't read de DVD. I sent the unit to a audio service dealer and they changed the laser pickup.
The unit still say that can't read the disk. In the last test, the unit didn't load the disk.
The unit is from a Volvo V50 year 2004, ref Volvo 30679669-1, Model number 3AF311C/CU-P1.
I don't know what is the real status of the device, initially did not read the disks, but now could insert and remove disks, I can not load discs.
Tell me if you can fix with these symptoms?
What is the procedure to send it and fix ? Would you do budget before repair?
Thanks in advanced.

Hey Marcel,

my daddy's HU-1205 in his V40 has exactly this problem. It seems you have fixed it for that guy. I've made some tests today and the radio is permanently sucking 40mA. Can you fix that and how much will it be approximately? I cannot yet send you a PM since I'm a new user so please either post here or contact me on

Hi, Marcel.

I have the HU-850 audio system in my XC70 (United States). Have you heard of any problems with AM reception -or complete lack of AM reception? The 'AM' station presets display properly but there is absolutely NO sound. Now, I realize that AM is different for Europe vs. U.S. including vehicle wiring to the system.

The HU-850 was available in the S60, S80, XC70, and XC90 from 2007-2008 and I have seen posts on the internet from owners with similar problems. Volvo ABSOLUTELY REFUSES to cover replacement when out of warranty ("out of warranty" for me was due to high mileage.) The AM-radio should not be inoperable after 3 years of service, especially when hardly used!

Are you aware of Volvo's vendor (manufacturer) for this system (US-delivered vehicles, if that makes a difference)?

Thank you!
