Clutch fork

Posted Jul 15th, 2019 at 17:31 by BrianH

Can you believe the slave cylinder push rod had penetrated the fork!

Pedal when to the floor. Push rod over reached
and failed, fluid everywhere.

Unusual failure of high mileage Volvo 245. Get a new clutch plate now, gear box out!

Love earth

Going in Winchester yesterday....suddenly power....switched to petrol, nothing.

So it was electrical. Had a spare coil, and a spare amp, but wasn't these. Checked dissy.

I noticed that just earlier the nr side indicator suddenly stopped working, so as I thought about the next move why not bulb replacement.

I noticed that both the running light and the indicator were flashing together. AH! short through the double filament...

As I cant find Michelin tyres any more, on recommendation went to Bridgestone, but I've had balance problems ever since. Anything over 67mph and I feel it through the steering.

I got the tyres checked out for roundness, then replaced the bottom ball joints, track rod ends. sway bar rubbers, and the rack has been refurbished recently. Still going off at 67mph!!

Now the centre bearing and the big rubber support and seal (a replacement couldn't be found last time)....

700 932 miles on the odometer today.
All running well. 616 miles today.

Having spent all that money on the restoring the rear end (5900), I have got quote for full Waxoyl of the chassis. All those box sections and the rear trim across the back, that catches all that salt!

Hope to get to 1m in 2029.

240 1989 axle

Posted Sep 25th, 2018 at 18:40 by BrianH

Mobile again.

I made the mistake of using a ABS post 1993 axle thinking it would work on a 1989 pre ABS axle.

The speedo didn't work.

Ryan of Speedy Cables said the pulse of the ABS is 48 where as the non ABS, was 12 from the axle.
This required a little electronic box built to convert between the two.

It worked well only thing was the car was off the road because of their lead time of 5 weeks!!!
