Members Cars |
This is a section where registered users of this forum can create up to 5 personal pages for their Volvo cars. First go to User CP in the menu bar then select Edit Members Cars. You will then be presented with a page where you enter the details you want to include and upload up to 16 photos of the car. You can customise this any way you want. Each 'module' is like this: If you want to change existing ones just replace Engine Specifications with a heading of your choice. Then change N/A to the details you want to appear there. To add more such 'modules' just copy/paste a 'module' such as the one above and then change the text as I have just described. If you don't want all the pre set headings and 'do your own thing' with a heading in bold and then text after, just delete all the preset stuff then start with: If you know HTML then the world is your oyster, just use square brackets for the tags. |
What is a cookie |
What is a cookie? A cookie is a small item of data which a webserver sends to your computer. In our case, when you log on our server looks up your username on our database and sends you a cookie containing that username. That way our computer can detect, by the presence of the cookie, that you have logged on. Without the cookie it would be virtually impossible to differentiate between logged-on members and casual visitors to the site. This is true of any membership-based site, not just ours. There are two types of cookie - "permanent" cookies, which are stored on your computer's hard disk between browser sessions, and "session" cookies, which are only stored in the browser's memory and therefore are automatically deleted when you quit the browser. We only use session cookies, which is why you have to log on again every time you come back to the site (unless you specifically enable the automatic logon feature, in which case a permanent cookie will be placed on your computer). There's a lot of hype talked about how cookies can be used to spy on your browsing habits and suchlike, but all of that requires the owner of the site concerned to want to do that sort of thing. We have no interest at all in spying on you, and absolutely the only reason we use cookies is to enable us to differentiate between a logged-on member and a casual site visitor. It is therefore perfectly safe to enable cookies on volvoclub.org.uk. OK, so how do I enable cookies? Normally, cookies will be enabled automatically unless you have specified otherwise. However, if you are getting a message when you log on that you need to enable cookies, then there are two possibilities: either your browser program (Internet Explorer/Firefox etc) has been set up to block cookies, or you have some third party privacy or security software which is blocking them. Examples of the latter include Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security and various McAfee products for PC computers, and Net Blockade for Apple Macs. Below you will find instructions for enabling cookies in the most common browser programs. If these do not fix the problem, try restarting your computer: sometimes it takes a complete restart for changes of this type to have effect. If you still get the error message about cookies, check to see if you have any other security or privacy software installed on your computer. Unfortunately there are a lot of products available which have cookie control features and we cannot give you instructions for all of them. But if after following the instructions below you are unable to solve the problem, please answer "no" to the question at the bottom of this page, and you will be shown a form where you can request personal assistance. Please remember to tell us as much about your computer as you can, including any security or privacy software you have on it. To enable cookies please proceed as follows. The instructions depend on which web browser program you are using. We have detected that the browser you are using is Internet Explorer 6. Click 'Quick Links' on the menu bar then select 'Mark Forums Read'. |
Saying 'Thank You' |
A lot of people have put a lot of work into providing answers and help to many questions. Saying 'thank you' to them goes a long way. This has been made easier by having a 'Thank You' button at the bottom right of each post. Clicking on that generates a 'thank you' message and your courtesy is recorded in your profile and the profile of the person you thanked. |
I want to keep a copy of a thread on my own computer. |
When viewing the thread click 'Thread Tools' then select 'Download PDF Version'. You can also select 'Show Printable Version' and print it off. |
Subscriptions. What's that? |
Subscription does not refer to any form of payment on this forum. This forum is totally free. Subscription refers to the system of getting a notification by email that someone else has posted a reply to a thread/topic you are interested in. To activate this in any thread, before you post your message scroll down to the section 'Additional Options'. Find the drop down box with the header 'Notification Type:' and select 'Instant Email Notification'. When you no longer want to get these notifications just change the option. You can also cancel any of these subscriptions in User CP > Subscribed Threads > List Subscriptions. |
Selecting forums/posts to display in 'New Posts' |
I have set up a system where registered users can choose which forums they can get new posts from using the 'New Posts' link. Go to 'User CP' then 'Edit Options' and scroll down to the box entitled 'Miscellaneous Options'. There you can make your choices. If you want to view all forum new posts then select 'None'. You can alter your options at any time. If you want to exclude any only select the actual forum and not the forum header name that has the "" around it. Then click 'Save Changes'. The only forum that is excluded from this is 'Forum and Web Site Users Support' forum, as I use this to put out some important forum use messages. |
Multiple Login Accounts |
Accounts and logins are monitored to alert us of any member who logs in with what may be multiple accounts. This is not permitted. However, part of the monitoring system will alert us if more than one person logs in from the same computer. In many cases this is perfectly genuine, such as work computers, or persons living in the same house. When this happens we will ask you for an explanation, and if this is a genuine case we will add those user ID's to our 'ignore' list. |
