    Wireless Android Auto

My car has wired Android Auto but I am looking at getting a wireless adaptor to avoid having to plug in every time, I appreciate I will lose the ability to charge at the same time but I can live with that. Has anybody any experience with these - either good or bad? A lot of them are cube shaped which is no good as the 2 USB ports are stacked so the 2nd port would be blocked but there is a Motorola one available that has an inbuilt lead meaning the actual device is a few inches away from the port which looks as if it would be perfect!

For anybody that uses one - are they easy to configure?

I purchased this JMCQ 2024 Hot Wireless CarPlay Box Android Auto Adapt For Wired CarPlay Display To Wireless Smart Box Linux System OEM Upgrade - AliExpress 34 for our MX5 and it works perfectly and was easy to set up. It connects automatically every time you get in the car all be it a little slowly.

Your phone must have the same 'local wifi speed' as the unit. 5GHz in this case.

I got myself one of these it's compact and with updated BT works a treat.

Does it display the map in the drivers instrument panel or only in the centre console?

I went for a CarlinKit MINI SE Pro, about £15 from Aliexpress, the Pro version does Apple and android but some verions are apple only. It connects within a few seconds and works well. There is jut a slight hesitation sometimes when changing music tracks.
Display is in the lower half of the Sensus display only.

Can you still use the 2nd USB port? A few of them appear to be too big and would block the port which is why I looked at the Motorola one but it is expensive - almost £70 - so this seems better value.

I've never purchased anything from AliExpress yet but do have an Amazon account so more likely to go that way. I could walk into town and pay double for the same thing from a pop-up shop that probably buys from Amazon or AliExpress anyway!

Yep it's only slightly wider than the actual usb port, I'm able to use both ports comfortably....mines a 2016 so I can display in the centre console.

This is literally the size of it

Here's an actual picture of mine plugged in showing available space.

                    I bought the AAWireless device in 2021 for my 2019 XC60 - and a Samsung S20 FE (I paid £99! back then)
Worked well, but disconnected often - usually at critical times!

However a switch to a 2023 XC60 and a Samsung S24 FE and it's working well - connecting every time.

The new Ottocast Mini Cube 3.0 Wireless CarPlay/Android Auto Adapter seems good, as it's small, has good reviews and as both USBA and USBC options.
Now looking for a MY2022/3 XC40 in SW France!

If space around the usb socket is a worry just use a short extension lead.

Only in the centre console and uses less than half the screen.
