could that tray be fore the v70, as they often had the space saver wheel fitted instead of a full spare! All the V70's I've owned have come with this plastic shield, but not the 850!

I was told the tray was out of an 850 which had a space saver wheel in place.
There was donut part to the insert that the space saver sat on but I left that was I don't require it https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/attac...1&d=1594833052 |

Today was 'get dirty day' yet again...
The underside of the car has come a long way since I bought it but the exhaust which is now over 23 years old was looking a little tatty so I decided to give it a rub down and a coat of high temperature exhaust paint. I used this paint on a manifold many years ago and it was still perfect when I sold the car 10 years later so I'm hoping the exhaust will hold up for a few years longer https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/attac...1&d=1594840038 https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/attac...1&d=1594840040 https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/attac...1&d=1594840040 https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/attac...1&d=1594840040 https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/attac...1&d=1594840040 |
Looking great there, nice attention to detail.

WoW - LOVE this car  Love your attention to detail or I should say "detailing" and good to see someone with even more OCD thsn me
I can relate to the hard work and many hours spent to make your car look better than showroom - I do the car shows myself, and know only too well what goes into making a car "show ready" so youre attention here even exceeds that I've only just bought my very first Volvo a week ago, its a 1999 V70, so very similar to the 850 (which is what I really wanted) its just the 2.4 non turbo, but very well specked and is immaculate, with a 105,000 miles and extensive history. I'm in the process of detailing it, and so far did the interior, shampooing and steam cleaning every square inch, (non leather, velour seats) also did the boot and spare wheel well, where I have the same plastic well thing, and the polystyrene doughnut thing that you have ! with space saver spare Although the paint is in excellent / above average condition, I will clay it, machine polish and glaze etc, I will post up my finished article. In the meantime, well done you - and how far North of the wall are you ? I am just outside Edinburgh. |

Today's task was to tidy up the spare wheel. The other Columba wheels were powder coated by either the dealer or the previous owner but the spare is still original. As it's only the spare I decided rather than go to the bother of powder coating i would paint the inside (inside rim was originally painted and not powder coated) as the outer is still presentable. Some serious rubbing with 60 grade sandpaper removed the rough and I finished off with some emery cloth. Etch primed and some grey primer then a couple of coats of clear lacquer. I'll leave it tonight and polish the outside tomorrow before applying a coat of wax

Spare wheel now cleaned up waxed, tyre dressed and back in the boot and looking so much better than it was.
It's actually came up better than I expected so will keep my OCD at bay for today  https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/attac...1&d=1594977655 https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/attac...1&d=1594977655 |
Now that's a masking up job, very impressed. Looks great.

Looks like we were doing similar projects at the same time. I do like your playing card idea, looks almost arty! And great job on the wheel, that really looks clean and smooth all over.
