Are you sure they are DEFINITELY cutting out ALL the rusty metal there...?

Not a good idea to just grind it.

John

Yes, I've seen the new weld. It wasn't too bad in the first place,a lot of surface rust.

Good. They must cut out the rusty metal first... not weld a repair on top.

Well, work seems to be progressing at a glacial pace, but maybe that's my impatience. Doors are off and being prep'ed for paint. dings etc filled on side. I'm just hopeing that it will be ready before end of April.

Some of this is worrying. It is very bad practice to put filler over paint that hasn't even been keyed properely. If the paint is shiny it doesn't bond properly and there is a chance there is wax on it. You'll end up with a sink line round the filler as the solvents creep under the edge.

For a quality, long lasting job you go back to metal and then fill, at the very least the paint is sanded right back before filling.

It's OK it had been ground back. It's just that the filler has been spread over the painted area further than the shiny metal. It still has to be smoothed back. I visit regularly to keep an eye on things.
