My V70 sits for six months of the year parked up and at MOT time the engine check light is 'almost' always on

Normally a wee dash of VIDA sends that away but recently it was back on very quickly with a lambda failure code :-(

YES IT IS a failure. The mot regulations were changed earlier in the year and it is now a fail.

In my experience you will do so much better leaving the lpg out of the equation. They never work properly.

I've run 4 vehicles on LPG, 3 conversions and one factory.

The factory V70 Bi-fuel was the only one that ran poorly, wouldn't switch over, and put the EML on.

The 3 conversions (one Prins VSI1, one OMVL and one old single point in a series 2 Landy) all ran without issue, just as well as on petrol.

That allowed me to do 30,000 miles a year in a C70 T5, and something similar in a 4.4 V8 Range Rover...

OK DLM48 lets get rid of the 'old wives tales' and the 'my mates mate has had his MOT'd with an Engine light on' and lets talk FACTS.

I will start

20th May 2018 EC Directive number (2014/45) made required adjustments to the UK MOT Regs. Engine Check Engine light a mandatory inspection. The new requirement is within section 8 of the following

https://www.gov.uk/government/public...-emission-data

And I quote
… 'Defect', ...'Engine MIL inoperative or indicating a fault, ...'Category -Major (fail)'.

You cant remove the bulb or have the malfunction indicator lamp MIL on.

You either

1. tested at change over time (before june) or
2. simply got lucky.

Where is your OFFICIAL mot guidance.

Also please tell me how you received an 'advisory' when they no longer exist, its now minor, major and dangerous...….

Series 2 landy yes, I would LPG that but the modern XC90s are highly complicated. I would expect constand EML on and trips to the dealer. Also LPG has very poor lubrication properties, are you running flash lube type systems on modern stuff?

classicswede Aug 25th, 2018 01:06

EML should not be coming on at all. Newer XC90's do need some extra parts for the conversion to keep the petrol system happy. You can't fool modern OBD systems like you used to so the methods have to be right.

Flashlube is only needed on some of the newer engine where teh valves are softer and valve closing is harder than the older models.

Taking the car to a Volvo dealer for a LPG conversion issue is a daft idea. The system just needs to be fitted and setup correctly

Our LPG conversion

V70R AWD Prins VSI1 system on our 550 mile drive home on LPG never missed a beat and we got 23MPG - measured tank full to tank full. The car display was saying silly numbers for the MPG but as I have no idea how it works that out I think I can live with the real world results. I will probably take it for a wee look see / service with a local LPG Prins VSI1 guy.

BRC or Prinz

If you can afford it, I'd go Prinz. If not I'd go BRC.

See my above posts and basically don’t bother.
