Also I need a another passenger headrest, there's a small chunk out of that too.

There is a small amount of foam chewed on the footwell/under dash covers but that's on the inside. They also had a go at the underside of the seat squab but that's not bad or visible either.

I think that's the only internal damage, I just hope they left the wiring alone.

It'll need a good clean inside, good job I've got a carpet cleaner!

It may be the case that one of my local scrappies might still have a mk1 440 in, likely my cousin's old car. If you put a pic of your interior I'll see if it's similar next time I'm in there.

Thanks for that, I'll try to get some photos tomorrow.

I had a Black 440 Turbo from 1993 to 1997 - a fantastic car, a real wolf in sheeps clothing.

I seem to remember that Volvo offered the 440/460/480 Turbos from about 1989 to 1992 in both catalyst equipped and non-cat form. The penalty for having a cat was about a second in the 0-60 dash.

yes, you're right, cat was an option for a while before they became compulsory. New cars at that time were very expensive in real terms (compare to average annual wage) so few cars than usual were bought. No wonder the top model is a rarity.

Get it running, get it all working, get it motd, enjoy it for a bit and make sure all is ok, then soup it up if you still want to.

If mk2 stuff fits. I have a spare interior if you want - half leather and includes the boot matt if you like and can collect from Essex.

One of the door cards is slightly water damaged if you want the door cards.

Thanks for that offer. I'm not sure what parts are interchangeable. Half leather sounds good though! I'll have a think about it. Are you in a hurry to get rid of them?

Just a quick post to say that despite taking the car to my local garage to get a low down on the basics required to get it on the road again (which took several weeks!), I failed to make progress myself as winter and Christmas loomed. The car ended up back in storage for another 15 months. I've just brought it home today with a view to properly inspect it myself and clean it up a bit and get it away from the sodding mice that have been in again but no further damage. Very annoying as they've totally ignored the 360 saloon stored next to it. This poor car must be saved!

I've just given it a wash and started having a closer look at the car. Over the last few years in storage I've started it up and moved it around. A while ago it developed what feels like a bad misfire. I've been told that this is most likely the CAT which has broken down blocking the exhaust. I've checked the distributor cap (fine) and plugs (dirty with carbon), now cleaned. The car was running fine about 2 years ago but one time when I started it up the 'misfire' came on. Has anyone had this before with a CAT and is this likely? I intend to remove it anyway as it is early enough not to need one for the M.O.T. The entire system (except downpipe) is rotten anyway. The brakes are seized of course!
