I gotta chime in with my neighbor. Insurance warps prices.
Opening the mothership's server is insured too. Everybody wants coverage...price goes up. |
In the late '90s/early '00s[I forget which] the master key for a Fiat Cinquecento was close on £1,000 from the dealers:speechless-smiley-5:speechless-smiley-5

My last one was broken down like this:
Fob: £99 Blade: £45 Labour (to recode, shouldn't take long but it's min 1 hour): £110 VAT: £50 |

Thx for all the replies and comments, most of them amusing and informative, but a lesson learned for all of us methinks.
P.s how much are the new ones!!!!!! |
What about.....
A non-franchised car key specialist? I have just bought my son a 2010 fiesta with only one key. I contacted our local key specialist and he wants between £75 -£135 depending on whether it's a fixed, non folding, non-remote key or whether it's the full-monty remote and folding key. As always (well, mostly) going to the dealers involves getting bent over and spanked! When you look at the new Volvo key's proportion of the car's value it's probably a third!

Sorry to revive an old thread - I'm an enthusiastic new owner.
My car only came with one key. Is a dealer the only option for a spare? |
Yes, dealer is the only option for a spare to open and start the vehicle
Local locksmith might do you a key to open the vehicle, but it won't start it. |
Try this place it's based in the west midlands been going a long time and did a volvo key for £140 a year back
