VUC or VOC meet? IMHO I can't see the point of two separate meets in the same area of the country on the same day. Apologies if I’ve missed something it's been a long week lol :)

Hi,
Yes, does seem silly to have a meet in two places on the same day.. Or are they adjcent to each other?? I thought that the idea after Fezzy Park was to meet in Oxford somewheres..? Des. . . ;) |
We're not talking about having the meet on the same day, just at some time in the same month.
As Pedro points out, some just want to meet and chat - VUM Oxford. Others would like to meet, race and chat - VOC Avon Some strange people (myself included) would like to do both! |

What are the requirments for car (and driver) to take part. What are the costs? What 'racing' takes place? Would an S60 D5 Auto driver get laughed off the track? Yup .... I'm a track virgin  |

Avon Park Raceway is a quarter mile drag racing event. A RWYB day (run what you brung) means anyone can register and have a go. It's about £10 to enter and spectate and a further £15 to register to race. You must have your driving licence and arms and legs covered - i.e. no t-shirts/shorts, although how strict they are on this I do not know. Drag racing is great fun. I am useless at it myself but really enjoy the taking part and adrenaline rush. It sounds easy - just drive fast in a straight line - but there is an art to getting a good launch, one that I haven't mastered lol. Hopefully see you there! |

No, that's the great thing about RWYB days, anything can turn up. I've not been to Avon Park yet, but I have done two days at Santa Pod. On both occasions there were some spectaculary quick machinery there like the Bedford Rascal with the bike engine that eats BMW M3's for breakfast or the Mk1 Escort with a highly tuned Cossie lump that runs in the low 11's. On the other hand there wre the usual selection of chavv'd out Corsas and Saxos running mid to late teens and then there were other entrants like the young couple with their Fiesta 1.1 and 1.3 that were running 22sec quarters and the Corsa diesel that runs a 22.5. The beauty is that for the most part those with the slower cars were getting as much kudos and respect as those with the seriously quick stuff. It really is that it's the taking part that counts, not what time you run - you get respect for just being there. |
Put it this way, When v6 man was doing a full burn out in his 960, the crowd were cheering.

The Addition of Avon Park and Oxford to the Poll
I've added the option of both Avon Park and Oxford at different weekends to the poll. :bananapowerslide::bananapowerslide:
