When done and I want to measure the CO? Is it only a gas analyser that can do this? Several people mentioned it which had me wondering if there was multi-meter sized gizmo folk are using. What am I looking at for an ideal mix 1.5 -3%? Not sure where I got that from so could be miles off.

you need a friendly MOT garage to do your CO , correct setting is 1.5% CO + or - a bit to get a nice idle 3% is too rich ..

Hi all, been a while. Been so broke I couldn't even put petrol in this car to test out all your advice. Now sorted and car running much better with new injector seals/O rings.

However, he said he put it on the gas analyser and set it to 4% as that's the best you'll get on an old engine like that? Either I've misunderstood which figure he was quoting or he's not trying very hard to get the 1.5% you guys mention.

It may all be linked to the new problems I have now. Now....

1.) it only runs from cold if I rev it a bit upon first start up until it settles

2.) when I put it into drive or reverse the revs nearly die causing cut out, if switching from reverse to drive this problem is worse.

3.) After a run, when putting it in park or neutral the tick over is at 2000rpm. I've tried to run some Wynns injector/fuel system cleaner though it mixed with 4 gallons of fuel for a nice strong mixture in the hope it would clear a sticky throttle body to no avil.

4.) MPG still seems poor even for a 240. What are the official town/motorway figures for a B200E? It's not helped by the very variable fuel gauge but I think I'm still struggling to make 20mpg, closer to 15 perhaps!

All help much appreciated.

He probably doesn't know how to adjust the mixture on K-jet.

There's info on line if you do a search.

My previous 240 (b230e) went from low 20s mpg to over 30 with injector seals done and mixture set correctly

^^^^Yep it does sound like it just needs 'setting up' correctly. Warm idle should be at 950-ish . Cold at 1100-ish .

I reckon you should, if poss find an independant Volvo place ( if the place you use is one, then maybe try another) get it set up correctly and see how it goes.

If still needing a bit of gas on cold start once you know it is set up properly there will be other suggestions for sure, but you gotta get it 'set up' right first methinks:thumbs_up:

4% is FAR too rich , this is a presice fuel injection system , age means mothing . the fact that the engine is stalling indicates it is too rich too .
1.5% is the setting for the CO .

Cool, that's what I thought. This guy is just our works MOT guy. I'm sure he was good back in the day but by his own admission he just want easy MOTs and services now. Anyone got any recommendations for a decent guy in the West Midlands?

Yep found the same page, pretty disappointed GRN which had good comments around the community don't even have a Gas analyser anymore. I'll try the guy up near Telford I guess. Just want it sorted then I can trial the LPG and actually use the thing.

Quick update. Rang the excellent 'Wolves Tuning' who came to my place of work and charged £40 call out which included 1st hour.
He discovered that the timing was miles out and adjusted the mixture all for the set £40. Seems harder and harder to find someone who actually cares about fixing things cheaply and quickly rather than diagnosing major faults and/or servicing for easy money - considering it had been to 2 garages prior to this. One did the manifold gasket, the other did the o-ring seals, neither checked the Timing!!?? I know the other things did need doing in fairness but not impressed.

Vehicle running much better now though, idle is fine so will fill up on some LPG and see if the vehicle is as sweet as I hope it will be.
