Hello Everyone

Wonderful day out, well all 1hr I managed to spend there.

Massive thanks to those who organised it, great venue and perfect end to my summer.

For me I loved seeing and meeting both the cars and their owners. Saw a couple of C70's, stunning S40's as well as a V50 and an immaculate red V70r. I didn't get to meet all the owners but your cars were smart and lovely to look at.

BUT best for me were the 90's, a late K reg 240 Torslander, a beautifully patinated N reg 480 and to top it all a fabulous 940 GLE estate, brilliant!!!!

Dave Pearson, thanks for sorting out the day and making arrangements between the forum and the Air Musem. I didn't get to meet you in person to thank you.

All the best to everyone and hope we get to do it again soon.
Matt

Elvington 10/09/17 meet

A very big thank you to all that attended the meet today. It did not help a bad accident on A64 for those traveling on that route. The weather was kind in not much rain however winter is on its way. I hope all who came enjoyed the day. The next meet is 12 November, brrrr! yes even colder so a venue with good car park and indoor activity. Any suggestion welcome I have thought Leeds Armoury, however need to investigate what kind of deal we can get. Get your thinking caps on. Then next year so speak up and I will do my best to sort.
Regards to all and thank you. David:thumbs_up:

Thanks for a great day out, apologies for being so late. Nice to meet some new faces, and see some cool motors. Looking forward to seeing you all again soon 😀.

dcw Sep 10th, 2017 17:54

Sorry I missed what sounds as if it was a good day.

Hope to be right again by November and make the next meet! 480 will be in hibernation by then though...

Best to all

David

Thank you for organising today V50t5dave, it was good to meet a few of you!

Sorry I had to shoot off early, damn work! Sounds like I missed the best of it too!

Might not be able to make the next one, but we'll see!

JockinLeeds Sep 10th, 2017 21:33

Hi all!

Thanks for organising Dave.. been a while since back at elvington and what better reason than to look at some Swedish Machines!

I'm not very good with the forum names as to who's who..?

Well, I'm Craig... The Glaswegian pole dancer with the shiny grey C70.. and my son Connor with the C30.
It was nice to meet you all.

I took some pics but rather than try and whack em in here I've posted to the Volvo offers owners Facebook page..
Have a look and tag yourself.
The Facebook post solved the mystery of the red 480.. it was a normal visitor who just decided to park with the other Volvos.. 🤣

Yet another good day out for the Yorkshire section, well done Dave. Leeds Armoury sounds like a good meet for November. Had a good run home via a very nice Italian restaurant (mrs skips idea.. err bribe) Needless to say £85 quid lighter, even being a Lancastrian I had to utter the immortal Yorkshire warcry. HOW MUCH????? Hope to see you all soon. In the mean time happy motoring,

For Steve " skippyfox "

Hi Steve, you are catching on well to Yorkshire speak. Try this one,
" At least Dick Turpin wore a mask. " works quite well on the recipient it worked for me with Ray Chapman volvo dealer York who thought double the standard main dealer rate was acceptable.
Keep up and soon you might consider moving over the hill that being you have passed the visa test. lol

David " you can take the lad out of Yorkshire but you can not take Yorkshire out of the lad! "

Just a thought!0

This is just a thought for next year
How about a drive up to Tan Hill Inn on Saturday afternoon stay overnight, then on the Sunday a drive through the dales.
It would require fixed numbers and booking well in advance to secure the rooms.
Just testing the response, if enough I will investigate further.

November meet date change.

Hi everyone I intend to move the meet by a week to the 19th to avoid armistice day.
On a better note if we fancy Leeds Armouries IT IS FREE! what better news can there be to a Yorkshire " person". Trying to promote equality. I have had little response so please let me know as it will require parking to be arranged.
Thanks to David ( dcw ) on the forum re Tan Hill next year. Speak up because rooms are limited and a first come policy will have to be applied. This does not mean that anyone who can not stay overnight can not participate in the Sunday run through the dales.
Hope all are well that includes the Volvo's.
David:thumbs_up:

Hope to make the Leeds armoury one.Free is bang in the middle of my price range, owt for nowt and I'm there with a barrow:animal-smiley-040:

Petey80 Sep 20th, 2017 08:58

I don't think I can make the November meet, but would definitely be up for a trip to Tan Hill and a blast around the dales.

It's not too far from me so wouldn't need a room booking and would just turn up on the Sunday.

Matthews 855 T5 Sep 20th, 2017 12:37

I'm up for 19th Nov at Royal Armouries. (Thumbs Up sign).

Matt

Mistero Sep 29th, 2017 13:53

Hi, re the 19th November at Royal Armouries - have you approached P&R Cars, the Leeds indy specialist. I know it's on a Sunday when they're usually shut, but their site is a mile away near the ITV studios and Peter and Bob might be interested in hosting. Their site is quite large so it might be an option if parking at the Armouries is difficult / expensive, and I bet you'll all want a tour of their workshop!!

skippyfox Sep 29th, 2017 23:13

Sorry lads for being off the grid. Saw red and the laptop got a flying lesson, the wall won!!! Leeds armoury sounds good, and the Tan hill run is definitely a good call. One up date the polar bear has gone to a new home. XC90 no more...Just bought 16 plate XC70. With a lot of grunt under the bonnet. Hope all in the Yorkshire section are keeping well, see you all soon, in the mean time happy motoring:thumbs_up:

Hi Steve, on a Yorkshire thread, next time throw your laptop throw it my way. I will definitely give it a good thrashing when I have done with it.
Glad to see your back. Hope you enjoy your new Volvo.

Re P & R cars.

This looks like a good venue for a meet. I am not too sure about parking being 1 mile away. When you have got arthritis and getting on a bit and that is just the Volvos. The rest of us just creek and try to remember to take our medication.
Thanks for the suggestion it's what I have asked for. Anyone else any ideas Yorkshire a big place. If enough suggestions we could do a lot more next year.
Dave.

A couple of ideas for next year have occurred to me,whether they're viable or not I don't know, but here goes[in no particular order] 1 Eden Camp up near Malton/Pickering.2 The Deep over in Hull. If either or both are of no use that's fine.

V50t5dave Oct 1st, 2017 22:21

Thank you

Both venues are a good idea. The deep I know and the car park is big enough. As for Eden camp I have no idea but I am sure someone will say.
Many thanks for this. Dave.

what ever the shout is for the November meet is, I'm up for it. Regarding Tan Hill next year that is a big defo.. Great location, a bite to eat and a few beers, with a good bunch of people. Wake up the dales with a few roaring Volvos the following morning. I'll even bring a ferret:thumbs_up:

Eden camp looks like a good venue for a meet. Former POW camp. now a war museum.

I should be ok for 19th November booked it in the diary. It's a long time since I've been to the Armories, really enjoyed. What about The Oil Can Cafe/ Carding Shed for a meet http://thecardingshed.co.uk

skippyfox Oct 13th, 2017 20:07

Now uncertain about making the Leeds meet as I seem to be having occasional ETM problems,so it depends on getting my Omega fixed and M.o.T.'d so I can lay the V70 up while I get the ETM off and sent away for repair.:lightning:

Leeds Armouries meet 19/11/17 update.

Hi all just an update re parking at the Armouries.
The car park is a multi story run by Citi parks. The post code is LS10 1LE, I have spoken to them re group parking, whilst they will not cordon off any space I am assured that it will be quiet. I suggested that we go to the top floor as this would be the last to fill up and they said that was fine. The entry to the car park you will receive a ticket and there is a tariff which rises by a £1 an hour from 2 hours at £4 so 3 hours are £5 and so on. Ok its not free I could not get anymore off this company.
I will be on site on the top floor from 10am onwards so I will see you all there.
Hope this is of assistance.
Regards David. any problem ring me 07960210402.

Finally you have accepted Yorkshire brain washing, welcome to the real world.
This week on BBC breakfast they asked where does the North start. Well to be honest it starts and ends on the Yorkshire boundary. Also they tried to say when chips and gravy are not to be tolerated. Lets be honest any one who thinks that is normal " Chips and gravy " do not bother crossing into Gods county.

Jesus loves everybody but the folks from Yorkshire are his favorites..
See you Sunday Steve keep up the work.

Sad but hope you all have lovely time.

The Armouries Leeds

Well a great sunny day and looking forward to a meet. Then I arrive, three of the club turn up. Loads of looking forward too it. At least some say can not turn up due to work and I understand. However you should hang your heads in shame the ones who expressed an interest and no show and no message. I know some have vehicle issues ( dippydog) but the rest shame on you. It is not compulsory but decency says tell me.
However I will continue and myself along with another Yorkshire man plus a Lancastrian will continue.
You are missing out. The Armouries is a great venue such 4 hours is not enough to view.
This section is YORKSHIRE. The largest in the country and you can not even bother to turn up shame on you.
I am a Yorkshire man so I will not give up so, do not say great to a meet then no show. You know who you are!
David.

You can take the lad out of Yorkshire but you can not take Yorkshire out of the lad. :pizza:

Any photos of todays meet please, i have never been on a Yorkshire meet, though could not have made it today due to other commitments.

Yet another great day out, sadly lacking in numbers, but I suppose s@@t happens. Needless to say, we had a good day. Tan hill is the next one I believe and that will be a bloody hoolie. Over night in the highest pub, good beer , good grub , good company, and the following day a good mooch round the Dales. What more can you all ask for. Might be Lancastrian, but I'm getting to grips with the Yorkshire thing... Keep up the good work Dave. Looking forward to the Tan hill bash.:thumbs_up:

The Armouries was a great day out. The exhibits are very fascinating if anyone has not been then can highly recommend. It was a pity that so few turned up especially as Yorkshire is the biggest county and it would be interesting to know how many Volvo owners we have in Yorkshire. Come on let's show the rest of the country we can be the biggest section.
How about this for a meeting in the future in South Yorkshire

I'd like to attend an event, I'm close to Hull. I also run a car group on Facebook and will shortly be organizing a car meet up, possibly including RC Cars too.

Dippydog Nov 20th, 2017 19:54

I'm really sorry I missed this meet especially as I've never been to the armouries before, but my ETM issues are at present still unresolved:broken_heart:The Tan Hill meet I cannot do as living alone-but with a dog I simply can't do nights away and I'm not sure I could get there in time for the Sunday run out.
