Take the intake hose off the throttle and press the flap closed with a thumb against spring pressure , any tendancy at all to stick shut , then fit a new throttle , But if you are having these starting problems . i'd change it anyway for £60 ..

I'm surprised the dealers are is struggling with this , its a known issue and has a bulletin on it .. Change the plastic throttle housing and see how it goes ...

hi just got the car back on friday, all they done was drive it round for 2 weeks hopeing it wont start !!!! guess what it started every time for them !!! well so they say!!!! 300+ miles later very peeeeeed !!! off with the extra milage on the car,all they done was fit a new fuel filter and they say that they took the throttle body off and cleaned it ,?????? had a wedding to get to on saturday and guess what happend !!!!YES IT WOULDENT FU###NG START!!! so now ill be taking it into work tomorrow to get the throttle body off my self to have a look before i go back to the garage to kick off..
now the wife said she wants rid of the car ,as she wont take it out because of thr reliability of it...

clan do you have any info on the bulletin about this problem and also where can i get the throttle body for this price !!!!

Clan Oct 5th, 2010 19:41

I have already explained that if you have this symptom then change the throttle , and also explained how to test it for sticking . Its not expensive , I'm surprised you havent just bought the throttle and fitted it long ago ... The dealer should chase the bulletin up . I believe the bulletin says much less than i have said about the situation , It just indicates that the throttle is likely to be the cause of your symptoms . Good luck , if you want a job doing properly do it yourself ... available from your dealer + VAT + about a 3% increase since i first said they were about £60 ..

Mine's only done this once since a proper clean up with some teflon spray - I'll get round to replacing it some time!

What is interesting is that the fuel conssumption has improved by 2-3mpg since cleaning out that small part of the inlet tract......must have been some major disurption to the gas flow, and the pickup has also improved considerably.

just orderd a new throttle body for mine today ...£72 inc vat for the straight one ,and £148 +vat for the new type .....so ill update too let you know how it goes !!!!:animal-smiley-040:

The new twin throttle body never sticks , probably because it is much more rigid ..

:a1: :beer_yum: to the CLAN !!!
quick up date ..now been 2 weeks since fitting the new throttle body the car has started every time .......
ive noticed improvement in the throttle response and will hopefully be better on fuel !!!! youd never think such a small sticking flap would make your life a MISSERY.....
the local garage cleaned it out but then i noticed it got worse ....so i just replaced it .

will keep you up to date in the next month just to see how things gose .. and again a BIG thanks to the CLAN:thumbs_up:

Clan Oct 20th, 2010 22:20

oh well done , glad all is well , it is very difficult to prove this is causing the problem but I've never had one have the problem come back after fitting a new throttle . The last word of my signature says it all ...

cymroboi Dec 28th, 2010 21:28
