SIM reader for Integrated GSM Phone V70 not working

Hi all,

I have recently joined the world of Volvo having previously been an Audi driver. I'm still on the fence at the moment as regards performance, build etc....Anyway, the new chariot (V70 54 plate)has the integrated phone (where the cup-holder usually is!) but it does not recognise ANY sim card inserted into it.

My guess is the module needs replacing, my question to you guys is, can i replace it with a second hand unit? The volvo dealership are not too sure whether or not it would work. Mainly due to what has been mentioned already in this thread i.e. software driven electronics.

Has anybody had any experience with similar issues that could point me in the right direction? Any help much appreciated, it seems a shame to have all the kit installed and then being forced to use a bluetooth kit! Cheers

it wont belong b4 the old keys can be reprogamed or evern cloned my v70 use a 48 chip most chips in the keys have a code in them when they part programed at the factory if and when this code is broken the chip maywell be unlocked to reprogram iv have a ford tranny 07 plate new shape we r able to copy the key with some soft ware with no papper work ie v5 log book and no dealer old bmw keys can be reprogramed into cars now the dealer will say it cart be done but it can so i can see this techno being used to recode car parts aswell if some one bouthers to crack the codes

Swapping parts which are also electronically installed requires the skill of a hacker/modder type person. You would be amazed at some of the things these people can achieve. I personally would not swallow everything a dealer told me as they may be unable or unwilling to "think outside the box" - having said that I dont know too many people who specialise in hacking vehicle electronics.

xc90 infotainment control module

Not sure that is correct about electronic units being chassis specific.I had a problem with my stereo in an xc90,told by the main dealer that it was scrap and needed a new one(£850 to supply and fit)).
Bought one from a salvage yard fitted it and it works perfectly.

Phatbox/Digital Dukebox

Hi all,
Just near Pooped my pants... all this about the Stereo and changing out etc having an effect of the car..

I have an S60 d5 se 2002/2003 and want to put an digital dukebox in it..

As my car has the hu-803 which can run a rear Cd player.. even though it was not fitted as an option the head unit has the din output.

Will be the Digital Dukebox or Phatbox connect up to it.. will this be recognised by the head unit. More importantly.. will the car still work

can anyone out there help me.. some place i have seen say this will work..

do not want to go through the pain of fitting the system only to break the car..

Hi m19pjo,

I have a Phatbox connected to the HU803 in my 53 plate V70. It went in with no problems at all other than getting the Melbus cable (not prepped for ac CD changer or RTI) up to the back of the head unit. Have had it in to the dealers since for a new key/remote to be coded without any Volvo software problems.

DAB/Mp3

New member here, so I hope I'm on the right forum posting this.

I've just bought a '54 plate S60T 2.5 which has an HU 850 radio /cd unit. Having been used to a Blaupunkt DAB/Mp3 in my old Audi, I would be interested to know if anyone has been successful in adapting/converting the the HU 850 to DAB. Or does all the softare in 850 make this impossible? I know there is an after market DAB converter for FM radio made by Pure but it seems a messy solution and prone to a lot of dropout from what I've read.
Also, Volvo used to produce an ipod/mp3 modificaton for their radio/cd head units, but according to the main dealer in Nottingham they have stopped making these. Anyone know if these are still available anywhere and if it's a main dealer job to fit them?

Any advice/help much appreciated!

I replaced the head unit in my 2001 XC70 and it works fine apart from the steering wheel controls don't work. A small sacrifice to pay.
