Age Poll of XC60'ers

Volvo designed the XC60 to appeal to all age groups in the hope of attracting new customers and keeping loyal customers happy with a new design which seems to have worked.

Out of interest, would fellow XC60 'ers mind if they answered the attached Poll giving rough indiciation of their ages - we could give Volvo the results and who knows they might invite us all to their factory for a tour and few expensive pints on them (Wishful thinking)

Teejay1 Oct 8th, 2010 15:32

Voted ;-)

Wildoskar Oct 8th, 2010 15:48

Looks like my age group is in the lead (45 to 54)

stu0710 Oct 8th, 2010 16:11

Just voted, but turned 45 yesterday, so I could have tipped the poll either way!

Frosty56 Oct 8th, 2010 16:19

I hope having mine on order qualifies me to vote. If not, I just botched up the statistical accuracy of the poll.

If ordered and waiting feel free! Hopefully even if a long lead time will not affect Poll too much and depress if moving into the next band!

wimorrison Oct 8th, 2010 17:03

Might the age have something to do with the affordability :)

I know that when I was younger - a lot younger ;) - a posh expensive auto was not on my radar - just glad that I am old enough to be able to afford it now - though if I could be 21 with a car like this .......

XC60KEV Oct 8th, 2010 17:23

Not IMO.

If a 30 year old earning a good income is single he will probably buy a sports car. If his friend from school of same age and similar earnings is married with 2.4 kids he may choose the XC60 as more practical

If only!

Tinted windows, a few cushions, duvet and would see how durable the roof was for high heel marks and how flat the seats would go!

Let's hope nobody passes through three age bands between ordering and taking delivery!

bluesnappa Oct 8th, 2010 20:20

Oh yes they are! Come on the 45ers

Had to chuckle. The XC60 is hardly a chick magnet. At age 21 I did not want to attract the matronly types who wanted safety and practicality.

Sounds like my other toy - VW Caravelle bus 2.1 flat four auto - lowered, alloys etc.....

Try using it to tow a horsebox to events, then you would wish you were 21 again ;)

Your impression of Volvo may hold true 'down under', they have moved on a lot in Blighty.

Not that much, brand images take a long time to change. Ask a 18 year old if he wants a Zetes Focus or a Volvo and - can you guess?

Philpottig Oct 8th, 2010 21:57

Zetec even.....

I had a ski boat at age 21 and used to tow it with my VW Beetle. My recollection is that there was plenty of room in the back seat for fun activities.

Nothing much has changed here regarding attitudes. I have a 21 yo daughter who pleaded with us to buy anything but a Volvo. However, her attitude changed a bit after seeing the Twilight movies, but not as far as actually wanting one.

tomto147 Oct 8th, 2010 23:02

It seems like I am counting to the youngsters here ;-)

Bought xc60 with 31 and also had v50 with 28 ;-)

And still compared to my all other cars (Renault Megane Sport, Peugeot 407 coupe, Mazda CX7) Volvo beats them all ;-)

Maybe start a new Poll. “How young does the XC60 make you feel?“ Then compare the results.

It wiped off a few decades in respect of motoring enjoyment. However, sadly, gravity kicks in when you get out of the car.

XC60KEV Oct 11th, 2010 07:59

See the 25-34 category is creeping up.......

Someone voted for the 64+ group and added on 1%

wimorrison Oct 12th, 2010 17:09

Amazing how closely this distribution matches the UK Age Distribution :)

American source used as the picture was prettier :)

Don't know why I waited so long to get a Volvo. :D
The young'ns are running away with it so far.

My first real exposure to the brand was less than three months ago after somebody had reversed into me and I was given a V70 as a hire car. It opened my eyes to how good they are.

Back in the mid 90's I had a 240DL estate for a few months while waiting for a new car, it was my employers ex engineering vehicle, 2.3 petrol low compession petrol lump, had 280,000 on the clock, built like a tank and I felt very vulnerable when I got my new car (Astra).....sold it to a mate who still has it, passes every MOT first time!

My first Volvo experience was a 1997 V40 estate, bought at 9 years old. OK but very flaky electrics and had a habit of requiring expensive rear suspension bushes (only available as an exchange unit with the radius arm).Apart from that though, it was well built and had great paintwork.

I probably shouldn't admit it on here but it was scrapped last year under the Govt scrappage scheme against a new Fiat 500!

I'll probably get banned now from the Volvo Forum! :hidesbehindsofa:

A D3 R-Design Count??

I hope that my order of a D3 R-Design counts. I'm only 22. Delivery in less than 4 weeks.
T :)

XC60KEV Oct 13th, 2010 22:41

Absolutely. Younger the better in Volvo's eyes. You'll love it.
