Gauge Removal

How do you remove the econometer and outside temp gauge?
Thanks

Logan360 Feb 8th, 2013 08:45

Why you removing them? wanna sell them and associated pieces? but from the start

remove steering wheel, give the horn panel a good yank to reveal a nut

two screws up top gauge surround and two at bottom
pull cluster forward through. top first
unplug everything.
undo all bolts on the back. 8mm from memory.
black surround with clear plastic should come away
pull the backing off with the printed circuit still attached.
think that's all then you should have access to the encono and ext temp.

if you do wanna sell them and the outside sensor with wiring and vacuum hose let me know. will do a deal with some blanking panels i have for there.

Thanks Logan, that sounds easier than I thought it would be.
I'm removing them from my GLE before I sell it to my brother ;) then fitting them to my GLEi SE because a top spec car like that deserves the extra gauges :)

nicely said. Yea i think that's right. its been a while since i pulled a 360 cluster apart. Tried to fit them into my 87.

Hi mate.
Its also easier if you take of the panal below the steering colume, reach up behind the cluster and twist of the speedo cable.
Cheers Mark.

Won't be taking them out for a bit as I'm still using it lol, but I like to know what I'm doing in advance.

Logan360 Feb 10th, 2013 02:33

sorry to jump in but whats a econometer worth? my 360 track car has one in and i keep thinking about takeing it out and putting it in my 340 but dont know if i want to start pulling my 340 apart to fit it

cheers

Logan360 Feb 11th, 2013 20:08

Depends where your from. if you do pull it out i may be interested in buying it. from what I've read they are quite rare over there but fitted to nearly every car over here. i think my 87 stands out because it DOESN'T have one lol

Chris_C Feb 12th, 2013 09:27

It's not difficult to fit in chap, you'd need to get a hose t piece for it to connect into the 340, but those can be got from fish shops etc

I finally got around to doing this, it was pretty easy.
Now I just need to get the vacuum stud out as it's still in the manifold, does anybody know what size it is? 11mm was slightly too big so started to round the nut :(

Logan360 Aug 28th, 2013 00:15

I used vice grips.

Just had a look at the SE it has the vacuum stud and the rubber pipe already going through to the back of the gauges so I don't need to remove it from the GLE.

360beast Dec 20th, 2013 12:11

So I've put the gauges in my 360 but the loom for the outside temp sensor to connect to isn't there as far as I can see. Even with the bumper off I can't see any wires going into the bumper trumpet.

Now I couldn't see the pipe for the economy gauge to connect to behind the gauge cluster. So I went to the engine bay and pulled it a little and it has come off of something. It was connected to something under the heater box, I was wondering if it is important for something or if I can remove it and fit the pipe for the economy gauge?

Perhaps someone cut it off? As the pipe is cut in two and joined by a little white connector.

The pic is a bit blurred but the pipe is connected to the little brass bit in the middle of the manifold and the blurred black bit at the top is the end of the pipe. It should go through the bulkhead with the wiring for the gauges.

Indeed it is ;)

Logan360 Dec 25th, 2013 18:56

Finally sign up. I've been nagging you to ever since I've known you lol

360beast Dec 27th, 2013 19:47

Looked at the link, yeah I knew what should be thete as that's how I took it off lol. It's just the pipe is about ten inches long and was connected to something under the heater box. I can't see anything it would connect to so I've just fitted the rubber pipe I took off when I removed the gauges, good thing I did take it off then lol.

Now to double check there's no loom for the temp sensor, if I'm right and there is no loom then I will just have to make do for the moment.

360beast Jan 4th, 2014 13:03

I thought last night that maybe the loom for the temp sensor could be under the air filter housing... I was right.

Now I have fully functioning 6 gauges :)

Logan360 Jan 4th, 2014 19:49

I'm waiting for the day I have a fully functioning 9 gauges lol

360beast Jan 4th, 2014 21:40

Where are you going to put the boost gauge?

Logan360 Jan 4th, 2014 22:44

Pillar me thinks. Easily visible
