T4Rick May 12th, 2012 22:06

You can only try different volvos and see what there like.I did they were ok but i didnt half miss the T4 i have along drive for it in the morning im not saying where its coming from but it is far away.It has the full leather ,sports exhaust, dump valve, tinted wheels and the rare looking bbs looking alloys and a boost gauge. Its took me ages to track a decent one down.Ive seen some right dogs of T4s around as well. Some might recognize it ,its been to a good few track days i will get some pics up when i get back from the long drive.its not perfect and does have a few small marks but nothing heavy more blemishes.

I have these bad boys for my S40.

Not black, but not standard silver either.

Should be on the car soon, if the MOT isn't horrendous.

Hi Alex

They are Anthracite.

Paint from Halfords - refurbished them myself, from hand painted black Hammerite/corroded.

Look pretty good now.

Hopefully they will look amazing on my S40, too!

Cool, they look great, is it easy to do yourself? My wheels are surprisingly tidy so don't need a refurb, just a paint.....Is it something I could do easily or would I be better off taking them somewhere?

T4Rick May 13th, 2012 09:16

Its an easy job just time consuming i did a set on my mates lexus is200 with 18s on it,do it when the weather is warmish:thumbs_up:

If they just need painted, it is really simple, but time consuming.

Just give them a really good clean, getting any tar spots off and any tarnishing from the brake dust.

Key the paint with some pre-soaked P800 wet or dry paper, wash again and thoroughly dry.

I would wipe them over with a paint prep wipe after that.

Prime the wheels first and once that has dried, as per manufacturer's instructions, give them 2 - 3 light layers of colour coat.

Leave to harden for a couple of days, rub 'lightly' with wet or dry P1500 (wet) to key for lacquer. Same process as per the colour coat.

Stand back and admire.

Gary

Good tip for applying laquer, give it a fine tack coat for the first coat, just a fine mist so it is like overspray. Then, after 20 minutes apply a thicker coat, repeat after every 20-30 minutes applying glossy coats of laquer (be careful not to make them too thick or they will run). Aim for four or five coats of laquer. Do not use any harsh cleaning substances on them for a good couple of months.

Op, good luck with the T4, I miss mine after 3 months already.

Gary your a proper legend I cant wait to spend some time on my car. I did what you said with the seats and they are a lot softer now although the heat is evaporating the cream, give it another coat and its absorbing it. Defo gonna do the wheels like yours. Mine are starting to blister now though so any advice?

Thanks Dazza

Regards the seats, only thing I can think of is to park in the shade for a while, until the conditioner has fully penetrated the hide.

I created a thread on refurbing my Craters a couple of weeks ago, getting right up to the lacquering stage, so that might help.

Best asking questions about it on there, instead of us hijacking Ricks thread, on his return to the X40 clan. :-)

What upgrades does it have and what others have you got planned?

GaryS40 May 13th, 2012 20:49
