MOT advisory question ( front discs)
Can someone give me some advise over an mot advisory , last mot I received this for both front discs " Nearside Front brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (3.5.1i) " the tester explained at the time my discs had a wear lip, today Ive taken a look at them to see which size is fitted to my car, but to me they look fine , there is a 1 mm lip on both sides of the disc , the disc is still 25 mm thick , does this really deserve an advisory and should I look at changing them ?
thanks Dave |
If the disc is within thickness range, its fine. He's being a bit overzealous.
Get a coarse file, or die/angle grinder and remove the lip, or most of it. Sorted! |
my thoughts exactly ! , but looking at previous posts, some suggest the wear limit is 1mm per disc side and as a new disc is 28 mm, replacement should be at 26 mm
thanks Dave |
Hence 'if measurement is within range' find out what the range actually is. Its usually 2-3.5mm from original thickness on a chunky vented.
If they're 28mm new then yeah, its ready for a pair! |
