240 mileometer repair
 

My wife has just told me that the mileometer and trip function on her beloved 1988 240 estate has stopped working. Speedo is OK. A quick search indicates it is not too big a repair (most likely a 25 tooth cog wheel) but I am afraid I am getting a bit old for this sort of thing. Does any one know of a person in the Cambridge area who could / would do the repair?
Car has only done about 68k.

It's usually one of the cogs. I got a replacement from the US -- https://www.240turbo.com/240-odometer-repair.html
It's not a challenging job -- just follow the instructions that come with it.

After the comments and a bit of web searching I bought a set of cogs ... the 25 cog and larger (15?) cog from Parts Monster. Fitted this morning and after 3 goes it all seems well ... must have been some debris in the cog area. As expected the 25 cog had a tooth missing.
I went to fit the larger cog but after removing the original, noticed it had 3 extra locating slots next to the 3 round pegs ... these slots fitted over flat pegs on the carrier. To fit the new large cog I would have had to cut these flat pegs off so have left the original large cog in place ... it seems quite pliable though. Is this usual?
Any advice?

Well We cut the flanges off phil its works ok now although we had to replace some capacitors also the cog should be hard plastic not pliable it goes like that with age thats our experience anyway------- Louise
