XC60 - USB / AUX Input
 

I use one of my mobile phones (Samsung S5) solely for music & this works fine with the AUX input & via Bluetooth with the 2013 XC60.

However I cannot get any sound when plugging into the USB input ?

Any thoughts at all ?

Exactly the same on my 2015 XC60 R-Design and iPod Classic! Although it will sync with the iPod, it flattens the iPod battery completely, very quickly using the USB cable. Have tried alternative USB leads, another iPod even, result always the same.

We have found the only way to go is to operate it manually using the AUX cable whilst charging on the USB.

I'm pretty sure the usb port only works on a hard disk drive or usb stick.
It should then be controlled by the unit controls.

Or used for charging of course.
I'll test my theory out tomorrow but that's what the manual says... if I remember correctly.

As above, the usb function allows you to browse the contents of a hard drive/usb stick and play music stored on the disk. You need to format the hard drive to FAT32 file standard - a quick google will instruct you how to do so, it’s straightforward and done in minutes.

My USB charges my iPhone or iPod while playing music from it. Never used it for anything else apart from downloading new maps.

That's an interesting one as I've only had the XC60 for just over a month & haven't had the opportunity to fully investigate the sound system.

How exactly does one access this hard drive, assuming that my motor has one installed that is ?

The model is: VOLVO XC60 2.4 D4 SE LUX NAV AWD 161 BHP - 63 Plate (2013)

my 2013MY XC60 has had an iPod classic 160gb plugged in for the last 5 years to the USB. probably once every couple of months the iPod stops responding and needs to be rebooted before the car will recognise it and on very cold mornings it has tried to say its battery is flat yet 5 minutes later it's fully charged, which appears to be something to do with the car. But overall it's all we use, only used CD player once....

Access it from the Media list. Once you select HDD you can transfer files from a USB pen, but you cannot 'rip' files from the CD player.

Correct me if I'm wrong but following some Google searching I suspect that my 2013 model is not fitted with a hard drive. I think a hard drive comes with the 'Sensus' system & is possibly only available on vehicles 2014/2015 onwards ?

You must be right on the cusp as that is when they changed - do you have the dvd reader in LHS of the boot? If you do it is the older system, if not then it is Sensus and it has a hard drive
